Thoughts
What is Christmas? The historic record of the birth of Christ can be found in Matthew 1:18-25 and Luke 2:1-20.  Unlike any other baby, the one born that night in Bethlehem was unique in all of history. He was not created by a human father and mother. He had a heavenly pre-existence (John 1:1-3, 14). He is God, the Son—Creator of the universe (Philippians 2:5-11). This is why Christmas is called the incarnation, a word which means “in the flesh.” In the birth of Jesus, the eternal, all-powerful and all-knowing Creator came to earth in the flesh.  Why would God do such a thing? Why would he come as a baby, instead of appearing in power and majesty? Why make himself a true man and live among us, when he knew full well how terribly he would be treated?  It was LOVE! It was necessary, if we are to be saved!  Merry Christmas!

Preschool will focus on letter J for Jesus’ birth. We are excited to present our Christmas program to our families on Tuesday night and celebrate Jesus’ birth with a class Christmas party on Thursday/Friday. Both classes will create nativity artwork and learn about the reason for Christ’s birth: to come to Earth to be our Savior!
Mrs. Reynolds (PK & P-2)
Pre-K is having a fun week! Tuesday was our Polar Express day. We wore pajamas, rode our very own polar express (a box train) and made a snack fit for the North Pole! We are learning about the letter J this week. J is for Jesus we are also practicing spelling and reading Jesus's name. We had a blast performing for our parents in our Christmas program and are looking forward to our Christmas class party tomorrow.
Pre-2 is also having a fun filled festive week. We will also be having our class party. The 2's are excited to give their presents that they made to their parents this week. We will be talking more about the true meaning of Christmas during our bible lesson and continuing our alphabet books with the letter I.
Mrs. Sherman (K)
Kindergarten is filled with Christmas excitement as the boys and girls finish special projects and Christmas activities.  During Bible time, the class will continue to hear about the birth of Jesus and sing favorite Christmas carols.  The boys and girls will continue their gingerbread man unit as they hear different versions of the story.  They will bake and decorate cookies. Hopefully, the cookies will not run away again this year!  The full day students have been working on a book of reindeer facts which they will complete this week.
Mrs. Reisenbichler (1)
Merry Christmas!  This week was our opportunity to celebrate Jesus' birthday.  We had extra practices for the Christmas concert and continued our devotions and study of the birth of Christ.  Several special activities took place this week also as we learned more about singular and plural nouns and when to add -s and -es to words.  Each day the children also had fun searching for twelve hidden elves in the classroom.  In math, we had an assessment and are working on trying to improve our addition fact power.  In science, we finish our lessons on perspective and directional words.  The highlight of the week was on Sunday, when Jordan S. became a child of God through baptism.  Welcome to the family, Jordan!
Ms. Rhonemus (2)
The week K-8 put the finishing touches on their Christmas program which will be at 7pm this Thursday.  In reading we will be exploring opinion writing through the reading of "Click, Clack, Moo" which is a story where the cows get a hold of a typewriter and go on strike until the farmer and the cows can come to an agreement which involves heated blankets.  Watch out parents because soon your students will be armed with the persuasive powers of writing!   In science we are continuing to look at food webs using a website called Science4us.    We are also working on our map skills in social studies with a focus on directions and using coordinates to find certain locations.  We also had 3 birthdays this week along with our celebration of Christ birth which will involve activities and treats on Friday and a noon dismissal.
Mrs. Mayo (3-4)
Preparing for Jesus' birthday celebration continued in our class (and throughout the school!)  We studied the Christmas story,  put the finishing touches on the Christmas program and made ornaments.  We finished up our language arts unit with studying adverbs and homophones.  The 4th graders finished a math chapter and took a test.  The 3rd graders used decimals while measuring.  We did map work on the Great Lakes states.  In science we learned about weather and climate.  We finished the week with Christmas review games, spent our Mayo money at our end-of-the quarter sale, and had a party.
Mr. Postenrieder (5-6)
In our Bible time this week we practiced for our program on Thursday. We also listened to Andy Griffith stories about Christmas. In 5th grade math we continued to work with data.  In 6th grade math we took our 9th test. We also worked on displaying data. In our Language Arts time we continued building our vocabulary and finished reading The Face in the Besseldorf Funeral Parlor. In Social Studies we presented our power point on provinces or territories of Canada. In Science we continued to discuss populations and communities in our environment. We did not have Spelling.
Mr. Mayo (7,8)
As we look forward to our Savior’s birth, with so much time devoted to Christmas Service Practice, even children feel the hustle and bustle of the season.  We get two weeks off to breathe a little deeper, and appreciate the great things God has given us, from our families to our ability to read and comprehend great novels like To Kill A Mockingbird. We also get to appreciate the freedoms our country affords us, which we learn about in History.  Hark, Harold the Angel is singing!
Mr. Reisenbichler (7-8)
In religion we are studying how God gives us blessings and what we are to do with them.  In 7th grade math the students are classifying quadrilaterals.  In 8th grade math we are displaying and interpreting data.  The students are experimenting with soda bottles and every day chemicals in STEM.

Student Council
Student Council has had some busy months this school year, and with Christmas coming up, it only gets busier. We have even more events coming up this December, but we’d first like to thank everyone who brought in feathers to our Naked Turkey fundraiser. It was one of our most successful fundraisers in years! Across the whole school, we raised $410. Almost all of this money will go towards purchasing a new in-ground basketball hoop complete with striping. We expect to get this as soon as the weather warms up.
As Christmas is right around the corner, Student Council would like to invite you to make a homemade ornament to enter in our Ornament Contest this winter. All students can bring in an ornament that they, or they and a parent, made at home. If you would like to participate in the contest, there is a white table in the fellowship hall where you can drop off your ornament. Please be sure to put your name and grade somewhere on your ornament and to bring them in by Thursday the 17th.
Lastly, Student Council is hosting another food drive, the proceeds of which will go towards Milford Miami Ministries. There will be another table in the fellowship hall where you can bring in non-perishable items. These are defined as cans and boxes. This food drive will continue through this week and possibly into the last week of school.
Sincerely,
Jake Schepmann

Classroom information
Mrs. Frey (P-3 & P-4)
Preschool will focus on letter Y for Yellow Star this week! We are excited to prepare for the celebration of Jesus’ birth and continue to practice for our Christmas program! Just like the wise men brought gifts to Jesus, both classes will make gifts for their parents. We will read The First Christmas Night and Song of the Stars and retell the account of Jesus’ birth with nativity figures. Please join us on Dec. 15 at 6:30 PM for our Christmas program!
Mrs. Reynolds (PK & P-2)
Pre-K is learning the letter Y this week our theme is Christmas. We will be practicing sight words and color words this week. Decorating paper trees by adding a pattern to them. Measuring things in our classroom with wrapping paper. Asking ourselves does it take more wrapping paper when things are bigger to cover  them? We will review the Nativity story and make our own ornaments.
Pre-2 is also learning about the true meaning of Christmas and how we celebrate because it is Jesus' birthday. We will continue our alphabet books with the letter H this week. We are using play-doh to decorate gingerbread houses and sorting pom-poms by color. We are also working on something special for our parents for Christmas.
Mrs. Sherman (K)
At Bible time, the class will hear the account of the first CHRISTmas and how God sent His son, Jesus, so that He could save us from our sins!  During math, they will order strips of paper to form a Christmas tree and play Top-It.  The full day students will also measure Christmas object with gumdrops and complete 10 frame addition.  During literacy time, the class will hear stories about what animals do when the weather changes.  They continue to identify phonemes and beginning and ending sounds.  They will also begin a mini unit about the Gingerbread Man.  The full day students will complete a STEM project to help the Gingerbread Man cross the river without getting wet.
Mrs. Reisenbichler (1)
This week the children learned about Zachariah's conversation with the angel Gabriel in the temple, and the outcome of that conversation.  In math, the children started making a scroll counting  to 1,000.  This is a ten day process.  They also had fun measuring Christmas decorations.  In language arts we reviewed and learned more contractions. They also worked with maps, the compass rose, and map keys in Social Studies.  Our Weather books are complete and ready for you to view.  Please stop by the school hallway and take a look at what the children have been working on in artist/writer's workshop.
Ms. Rhonemus (2)
The second graders have been working hard with their schoolmates to prepare for their Christmas program on  the 17th and we cannot wait to see your smiling faces at the program!  In reading we are wrapping up the reading unit by reviewing the skills we have learned so far this year and especially looking at facts and opinions since we will be learning about writing persuasive essays and letters in our next lesson.  We took a test over chapter 4 in Math and we are looking forward to working with geometric shapes for the next few weeks.  For art and science we created our very own crystal snowflakes using a Borax solution and pipe cleaners.  In social studies we are learning how to use maps to find locations or to learn information about an area.  Seventh and eighth graders are working on identifying variables in science experiments as well as conducting their own experiments.
Mrs. Mayo (3-4)
Along with our regular school work this week, we continued to prepare for Christmas - finding ways to share God's love with others.  We collected food for MMM, made playdough to give to our Pre-K chapel buddies, made mini-Christmas trees to remind us that God's love is everlasting, and of course, worked on our songs and parts for the Christmas program. Academically, we also did a lot.  In religion, we studied the account of Jesus' birth.  In reading, we reread Catwings with partners and then individually wrote opinion/proof paragraphs for each chapter.  In grammar we worked on the complicated rules of making singular words into plurals.  In social studies we learned about Minnesota.  In science we learned about different kinds of soil and rocks.  In math, the 3rd graders began the week exploring estimates and polygons and then ended the week learning about decimals.  The 4th graders worked on powers of 10, rounding large numbers, comparing data, and ended with a chapter review.
Mr. Postenrieder (5-6)
In our Bible time this week we looked at The Tent Church. In 5th grade math we worked with organizing data.  In 6th grade math we worked with decimals, mixed numbers, and circumference. In our Language Arts time we continued building our vocabulary and read more of The Face in the Besseldorf Funeral Parlor. In Social Studies we remembered the events of December 7, 1941. We also worked on power point presentations on provinces or territories of Canada. In Science we began to look at environmental science. We had a regular week of Spelling.
Mr. Mayo (7,8)
We’re learning about the War for Independence.  Imagine a small group of farmers with guns taking on the supreme fighting force in the world, at the time.  You understand why nearly ½ of the colonists did not support the war.  In Literature, we’re learning the ugliness of racial prejudice in Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird.  All God’s children don’t seem to be able to get along much better now than in the 1930’s.  We use different separators now.
Mr. Reisenbichler (7-8)
In religion we are studying how God gives us blessings and what we are to do with them.  In 7th grade math the students are graphing functions and writing decimals in scientific notation.  In 8th grade math we are studying the slope-intercept formula for lines and solving percent word problems.  The students are experimenting with soda bottles and every day chemicals in STEM.
