Notes
The school year is almost over.  As I ponder the ways that God has blessed St. Mark’s, its staff, students, and families, I have to think of the following:
24 students achieved their service hours goal
The Mother’s Day in preschool was so joyous
The Christmas programs were the true Gospel
The students and staff survived PARCC
The Bike Day in preschool was spectacular
Confirmation for three of our students
4 of our students were baptized
On the negative side – we will not reach the Blue Ribbon Standard for attendance.  This is the first year St. Mark’s will fall below the 95% attendance rate.  There were too many vacations during the year.

Classroom information
Mrs. Schulte (Pre-2)
This week was our last week together as a class.  The children grew so much and worked so very hard this year.  We enjoyed a Carnival themed End of the Year Party together with our friends and families.  We shared the portfolios that we have worked all year on with our families.  The portfolios contained our Creation Story booklets and our A-Z bubble letter work pages.  We pray for a safe and fun summer for the children and look forward to seeing them again next school year!
Mrs. Frey (Pre-3,4)
Preschool is saying goodbye this week! We are creating graduation crowns and getting our songs ready for our parents! 4’s AM class will meet with their chapel buddies one last time. On the last day we will pass out portfolios and certificates and have a potluck party! We are giving glory to God for a great school year, and wishing all of our students the best for next year!
Mrs. Reynolds (PK)
It is the last week of Pre-K! We are finishing our alphabet review by going over the letters I-Q. We will play a few letter recognition and memory games as well as draw pictures of things that begin with each letter. We are finishing our end of the year surprise project for our parents and practicing a few songs to sing for the parents on the last day of school. Thursday we will be hosting a picnic and all of the parents from Pre-K are invited to join us for our picnic and last day festivities. In Bible this week we are talking about the story of Zacchaeus and how Jesus loves us even though we sin and how Jesus came to save those that are weak and sin and taught us how to repent. We are excited to begin our last week! Happy Summer everyone!
Mrs. Sherman (K)
At Bible time, Kindergarten will hear about Paul sharing God's Word with Lydia.  They will be reminded how God works through all people to come to faith in Jesus and to be saved.  The boys and girls have learned so much this year.  They will spend the week completing reviews of various skills.  They will also learn about American symbols.  The Kindergarten scientists conducted an experiment to learn why the Statue of Liberty is green.  At math time, the class will use function machines and create 2 digit numbers.  The full day students will play a sight word game called "There's a fly in my soup!", measure and graph the Statue of Liberty's foot and label American symbols and write facts about them.
Mrs. Reisenbichler (1-2)
This week our lessons in Jesus Time were about Saul and his mission to spread the gospel.  We learned that he was persecuted, but that didn't stop him from proclaiming the gospel.  The children worked hard on completing their science based stories.  Most of the children can see the end of this task in sight.  The stories are very good.  We learned about China and enjoyed stories about the Chinese culture.  Our art project this week was to make a dragon.  The students completed their math lessons for the year.  Unit tests were administered and year end testing takes place next week.  In science, we learned about the food chain and ecosystems.
Mrs. Mayo (3-4)
It will be a week of finishing for our class.  In religion we will be finishing up the story of Jonah by talking about the Ninevites and then identifying "idols" in our lives.  In reading we'll be finishing the book, James and the Giant Peach.  In social studies we'll finish Ohio history by learning about the newest immigrants to Ohio:  the Amish, African Americans. Hispanic, and those from Appalachia.  In science, we'll finish by learning about arthropods and then the systems of our body.  In math the 3rd graders will work with units of measure: length, volume, and weight, as well as mean, median, and mode.  The 4th graders will work on symmetry, frieze patterns, and positive and negative shapes.
Mr. Postenrieder (5-6)
In our Bible time this week we continued our study of the Means of Grace.  In 5th grade math we worked with volume, capacity and weight, and surface area. We enjoyed our last test on Friday over Unit 11.  In 6th grade math we worked with ratios, mass and weight, algebraic addition, and using proportions to solve percent problems. In our Language Arts time we continued to look at mood, tone, and style through our reading of “The All-American Slurp. In Social Studies we studied Australia and the islands of the Pacific. In Science we reviewed what science is and how it does confirm the Bible. In Spelling we studied the Latin roots: vid/vis and scrib/script.
Mr. Mayo (7,8)
In what was our last week of learning, we finished off World War I.  The class was interested to learn that our current president is not the first one to fight with Congress.  We learned about President Wilson wanting a League of Nations, but the Senate feeling threatened by it.  Neither side would compromise and we never joined the League.  Maybe there’s a lesson for today in there, somewhere.  Next week, Mr. Reisenbichler takes the class on their trip.
Mr. Reisenbichler (7-8)
In religion we are studying death.  In 7th grade math the students are calculating the volume of 3-D solids and converting volumes into metric.   In 8th grade math we are studying graphing and probability.  In science we are finishing the book on chemistry.  The students are building a roller coaster in STEM.

Classroom information
Mrs. Schulte (Pre-2)
This week we had a "Wet and Wild Day at the Beach".  We shared some fun books about the beach.  We played with some beach sand during our outdoor time and played games with our beach balls that had us moovin' and groovin'.  Later in Bible Time, we shared the story of "A Boy Named Timothy" and sang songs and made crafts about putting on the Full Armor of God.   We ended the day with the 3 year-old preschool class learning about bikes and bike safety.
Mrs. Frey (Pre-3,4)
Preschool is learning about life on the farm this week! 3’s will create handprint rooster art and muddy pigs. 4’s will create horse art and bubble print sheep art. 4’s also have a special bike day this week. We will read Duck on a Bike, learn about bike safety, and enjoy riding bikes in a section of the parking lot. In Bible Time 3’s will learn about Timothy and his mother and grandmother, and 4’s will learn about Paul’s change. The Holy Spirit makes your life new!
Mrs. Reynolds (PK)
Pre-K is reviewing the alphabet the last few weeks of school. This week we are reviewing Z, A, B,C,D,E,F,G, and H. We will discuss what sounds these letter make and list words that begin with each letter. The student have been working on a letter book where they are drawing pictures for each letter we will be working on those this week as well. Bike Day is this Wednesday! Students will get to bring their bikes to school, ride through and obstacle course, learn about bike safety and eat popsicles for snack. We have a very exciting and fun week planned in Pre-K!
Mrs. Sherman (K)
Kindergarten's rainforest adventure ends this week.  They will wrap up the unit by writing facts about the rainforest.  For the remainder of the school year, the class will explore maps, their state and country. During math, the boys and girls will complete rainforest subtraction and review skip counting, time and money.  At Bible time, they heard the account of Philip and the Ethiopian.  God makes us His children as the Holy Spirit works in us through his Word and in Baptism just as He did with the man from Ethiopia.  The full day Kindergarteners will play several math and sight word games.  They will draw and paint a lighthouse after reading The Lighthouse Children.
Mrs. Reisenbichler (1-2)
What a joy to teach the children about Jesus' ascension into heaven and the pentecost.  In math, we have started our year end review units.  Several children have earned certificates of excellence from Xtra Math and many have earned medals in IXL Math.  In language arts, the second graders learned to take two column notes and fill in a content chart.  The first graders are reading a book entitled Cleversticks.  During this unit they will review contractions, ABC order, syllabication, and much more.  In science, our unit is on the food web.
Mrs. Mayo (3-4)
In religion, we'll go over the account of Jonah.  In reading, we continue reading James and the Giant Peach.  In math, the 3rd graders will work with polyhedrons and explore congruence, segments, and decimals.  The 4th graders will have fun working with transparent mirrors and learn about lines of reflection.  In social studies we'll learn about rights and responsibilities of citizens.  In science we'll learn how we share the earth.    We're finishing our spelling books this week, which lets us know the year is almost over!

In Spelling we studied the Latin roots: ject, man, and cred.
Mr. Mayo (7,8)
In History, we’ve learned about the major events of World War I, the Great War, some thought The War to End All Wars.  We discussed how that worked out, historically.  We’re learning about the Armistice, whether it was fair, and what it had to do with the start of the Second World War.  In Literature, we read a piece about the events of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, in 1968.  It’s odd teaching about something I witnessed as a teenager on television!
