Notes
The
school year is almost over. As I ponder
the ways that God has blessed St. Mark’s, its staff, students, and families, I
have to think of the following:
24 students achieved their service hours goal
The Mother’s Day in preschool was so joyous
The Christmas programs were the true Gospel
The students and staff survived PARCC
The Bike Day in preschool was spectacular
Confirmation for three of our students
4 of our students were baptized
On the negative side – we will not reach the
Blue Ribbon Standard for attendance.
This is the first year St. Mark’s will fall below the 95% attendance
rate. There were too many vacations
during the year.

Classroom information
Mrs. Schulte (Pre-2)
This week was our last week together as a
class. The children grew so much and worked so very hard this year.
We enjoyed a Carnival themed End of the Year Party together with our friends
and families. We shared the portfolios that we have worked all year on
with our families. The portfolios contained our Creation Story booklets
and our A-Z bubble letter work pages. We pray for a safe and fun summer
for the children and look forward to seeing them again next school year!
Mrs. Frey (Pre-3,4)
Preschool
is saying goodbye this week! We are creating graduation crowns and getting our
songs ready for our parents! 4’s AM class will meet with their chapel buddies
one last time. On the last day we will pass out portfolios and certificates and
have a potluck party! We are giving glory to God for a great school year, and
wishing all of our students the best for next year!
Mrs.
Reynolds (PK)
It is the last week of Pre-K! We are
finishing our alphabet review by going over the letters I-Q. We will play a few
letter recognition and memory games as well as draw pictures of things that
begin with each letter. We are finishing our end of the year surprise project
for our parents and practicing a few songs to sing for the parents on the last
day of school. Thursday we will be hosting a picnic and all of the parents from
Pre-K are invited to join us for our picnic and last day festivities. In Bible
this week we are talking about the story of Zacchaeus and how Jesus loves us
even though we sin and how Jesus came to save those that are weak and sin
and taught us how to repent. We are excited to begin our last week! Happy
Summer everyone!
Mrs.
Sherman (K)
At Bible time, Kindergarten will hear about Paul sharing
God's Word with Lydia. They will be reminded how God works through all people to come to
faith in Jesus and to be saved. The boys and girls have learned so much
this year. They will spend the week completing reviews of various
skills. They will also learn about American symbols. The Kindergarten
scientists conducted an experiment to learn why the Statue of Liberty is
green. At math time, the class will use function machines and create 2
digit numbers. The full day students will play a sight word game called
"There's a fly in my soup!", measure and graph the Statue of
Liberty's foot and label American symbols and write facts about them.
Mrs.
Reisenbichler (1-2)
This week our
lessons in Jesus Time were about Saul and his mission to spread the
gospel. We learned that he was persecuted, but that didn't stop him from
proclaiming the gospel. The children worked hard on completing their
science based stories. Most of the children can see the end of this task
in sight. The stories are very good. We learned about China and
enjoyed stories about the Chinese culture. Our art project this week was
to make a dragon. The students completed their math lessons for the
year. Unit tests were administered and year end testing takes place next
week. In science, we learned about the food chain and ecosystems.
Mrs. Mayo (3-4)
It will be a week of finishing for our
class. In religion we will be finishing up the story of Jonah by talking
about the Ninevites and then identifying "idols" in our lives.
In reading we'll be finishing the book, James and the Giant Peach.
In social studies we'll finish Ohio history by learning about the newest
immigrants to Ohio: the Amish, African Americans. Hispanic, and those
from Appalachia. In science, we'll finish by learning about arthropods
and then the systems of our body. In math the 3rd graders will work with
units of measure: length, volume, and weight, as well as mean, median, and
mode. The 4th graders will work on symmetry, frieze patterns, and
positive and negative shapes.
Mr.
Postenrieder (5-6)
In
our Bible time this week we continued our study of the Means of Grace. In 5th grade math we worked with
volume, capacity and weight, and surface area. We enjoyed our last test on
Friday over Unit 11. In 6th
grade math we worked with ratios, mass and weight, algebraic addition, and using
proportions to solve percent problems. In our Language Arts time we continued
to look at mood, tone, and style through our reading of “The All-American
Slurp. In Social Studies we studied Australia and the islands of the Pacific.
In Science we reviewed what science is and how it does confirm the Bible. In
Spelling we studied the Latin roots: vid/vis and scrib/script.
Mr. Mayo (7,8)
In what was
our last week of learning, we finished off World War I. The class was interested to learn that our
current president is not the first one to fight with Congress. We learned about President Wilson wanting a
League of Nations, but the Senate feeling threatened by it. Neither side would compromise and we never
joined the League. Maybe there’s a
lesson for today in there, somewhere.
Next week, Mr. Reisenbichler takes the class on their trip.
Mr. Reisenbichler (7-8)
In religion we are studying death. In 7th grade math the students are
calculating the volume of 3-D solids and converting volumes into metric. In 8th
grade math we are studying graphing and probability. In science we are finishing the book on
chemistry. The students are building a
roller coaster in STEM.
