Parents’ Night Out Babysitting
The 7–8 grade students of St. Mark’s school invite you to have a night out on Saturday, February 27, 5:00–9:00 PM. Parents with children from infants to 6th grade may drop them at St. Mark’s so they can spend some quality time together. The students will watch them under adult supervision with a variety of activities, games, pizza dinner, and other forms of fellowship. Children will be divided into groups based on age. A free will donation will be taken upon pickup. The proceeds will go toward their end-of-the-year trip. When was the last time you had a date with your spouse or time to shop without the kids?

Classroom information
Mrs. Frey
(P-3 & P-4)
Preschool
is studying O for Ocean! 3’s will use streamers to create jellyfish and
practice a crayon resist technique to make an ocean scene. 4’s will create
shark hats, and octopus artwork. 4’s will check out the ocean life in action at
the Newport Aquarium on Friday. Both classes will enjoy the parachute. In Bible
Time 3’s will hear about Jesus’ meal with Zacchaeus, a disliked tax collector
who wanted to learn about the kingdom of God. 4’s will hear about one man’s
gratitude after ten were healed from leprosy. All of our blessings come from
God.
Mrs.
Reynolds (PK & P-2)
In Bible Pre-K is talking about Jesus feeding
the 5,000 people with 2 fish and 5 pieces of bread. We are learning about
the letter Q. We will be making a paper quilt where each child will decorate
their own square, making queens out of the letter q and using our handprints to
make quails. We are also looking at rhyming words this week as well as
opposites. We will be using Q-tips as writing utensils this week as we write in
paint through plastic bags.
In Pre-2 we
will be "washing" cars in the sensory table and building a town of
our own with blocks. In Bible we will be looking at the story of David and
Goliath and learning that even if you are small you can still make a big
difference. We will use our fine motor skills by practicing making pretzels
with play-doh. Our letter this week is
the letter P.
Mrs.
Sherman (K)
What if you had animal teeth?
Kindergarten will have fun exploring that question and writing about the kind
of animal teeth they would like to have! During reading, the class will
read fantasy stories about outdoor adventures, segment and blend phonemes and
identify cause and effect. At math time, they will measure with their
feet, count on using calculators and play guess my number. The bible
lesson will be "The Widow's Mite" where the boys and girls will
hear about how the widow trusted God to provide for her. The full day
students will play words games to improve word recognition and fluency.
They will also write sight words on paint bags, add and subtract as they play a
Lego building block game and measure with smiles! They will read Just
Going to the Dentist by Mercer Mayer, make predictions about what will
happen to the character and "turn and tell" a partner the story
details.
Mrs.
Reisenbichler (1)
This week we continued to learn about
the miracles of Jesus and see that He has power over the wind and the
waves. He also has the power to comfort us during the storms of our
lives. In math, the children learned about flat shapes and three
dimensional shapes. We learned to use quotation marks using our
shapes in an activity called Quadrilateral Quotes. Our winter
stories are coming along. Several children will be ready to publish
their stories soon. In Studies Weekly we completed our tour of
National monuments.
Ms. Rhonemus (2)
This week in
second grade we are learning about story structure involving characters,
setting, and the plot. We read Mr. Tanen's Tie Trouble and
learned about how sometimes you have to give in order to receive. In math
learned about organizing data and finding the mode, median, and range of the
data set. In science we are learning about energy sources as well as why
we have leap years. For social studies we are reading and learning about
George Washington Carver, the Tuskegee Airmen, and we are touching on the
Underground Railroad. In seventh and eighth grade science we are learning about
the different kinds of telescopes and how we use them to learn more about far
off galaxies and stars.
Mrs. Mayo (3-4)
In religion
we continued studying the Lord's supper and then began the account of Jesus at
the garden of Gethsemane. We finished learning about pioneer times
by reading stories in our anthology. In social studies we learned about
Alabama and Mississippi. Heredity and diversity was the topic of science
this week and we traced left or right handedness in our families. In math
the 3rd graders worked on multiplying and dividing in multiples of 10s and 100s
and worked with money. The 4th graders continued working with fractions
and finding their equivalents.
Mr. Postenrieder (5-6)
In
our Bible time this week we studied Samuel and Israel’s first kings. In 5th
grade math we worked with percents, fractional units of the whole, and dividing
fractions. We also enjoyed our Unit 8 test.
In 6th grade math we worked with parallelograms, fractions,
exponents, and percents. In our Language Arts time we wrote our second
persuasive argument paper. In Social Studies we completed our U.S. regional
power points and began to study Central America. In Science we worked cycles of
the Earth. In Spelling we worked through Unit 22 on words beginning with dis-.
Mr. Mayo (7,8)
We’re now
delving deeper into the Constitution. It
is the world’s oldest such document. We
are amazed that in such a great country,
THESE are the best candidates for the presidency available to us. We pray.
The class did such an outstanding job on the final test for To Kill a
Mockingbird I just had to let you know!
I have read high school papers that didn’t show that degree of insight.
Mr. Reisenbichler (7-8)
In religion we are discussing divorce
and God’s plan for marriages. In 7th
grade math the students are multiplying numbers in scientific notation and
simplifying expressions using the order of operations. In 8th grade math we are calculating
probability and the surface area of cylinders and prisms. The students are building a bird feeder in STEM.
