Classroom information
Mrs. Schulte (Pre-2)
We continue our
theme this March of "S'More Camping Fun" by taking a nature
hike. While on our Nature Hike we used our five senses to make
observations and collected items for our nature sensory table. We
revisited a classroom favorite, We're Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael
Rosen and Helen Oxenbury complete with sensory bags to go along with our
story. In Bible we shared the account of "Jesus Rides Into
Jerusalem". During Art we made nature sun catchers and turned our
Letter O into an Owl.
Mrs. Frey (Pre-3,4)
Preschool
is studying letter I for insects this week! Both classes will learn the
definition of an insect, read The Very Hungry Caterpillar, and play a
parachute game that makes the insects fly and hop! 3’s will create butterfly
and ladybug artwork, and 4’s will butterfly, firefly, and honeybee artwork. In
Bible Time 3’s will learn about a woman who uses expensive perfume to anoint
Jesus. 4’s will learn about Jesus’ call to serve at the Last Supper.
Mrs.
Reynolds (PK)
It is Under the Sea week in Pre-K! We
will be learning all about sea life and different animals that you can find
in the sea. We will also be looking at the letter U and words that begin
with the letter U. We will also be looking for words that start with the letter
U under different objects in our room. In Bible we will continue our study of
the Good Samaritan as our study was cut short by snow last week. Tuesday we
will have a mystery reader come in to read us a Dr. Suess story! It is sure to
be another fun week in the Pre-k room!
Mrs.
Sherman (K)
Kindergarten
was excited to share part of their morning with their grandparents for
National Lutheran Schools Week. They continued their study of
author and illustrator Eric Carle. They made ladybug clocks, ate
"ladybugs" and told time to the hour with The Grouchy Ladybug
and with the help of their grandparents. They added and subtracted
with Rooster's Off to See the World. After reading The Very
Clumsy Click Beetle, they made click beetles and tallied the
number of times it landed on its' back or belly. The boys and girls
also wrote about their favorite Eric Carle book. During Bible time, the
class learned about being a servant as they heard about a child from the Bible
and how he or she served the Lord. Kindergarten served others by cleaning
a classroom and part of the church. They also finish the account of Jesus
feeding the 5000 and began the lesson of Mary and Martha. During
math enrichment, the full day students played subtraction smash with playdough
and used the sensory bins to identify numbers and solve addition
equations. They began a book study of The Three Billy Goats Fluff.
Mrs.
Reisenbichler (1-2)
This week,
the children learned about Jesus' triumphant entry into Jerusalem and the
washing of the disciple's feet. We also learned about five children in
the Bible who were called at a very young age to be God's servants.
The children enjoyed the festivities of the week and managed to get several
math lessons accomplished. The children have taken an interest in the
Iditarod race across Alaska. Each child chose a musher to follow
during the course of the race. We read a book about a dog named Granite
that spurred interest in following the race. In science we worked with
the three states of matter. Our grandparents served as an audience as the
children shared books they had written.
Mrs. Mayo (3-4)
It will be a busy week between
celebrating Lutheran Schools Week with various activities and projects and
continuing to take the PARCC tests. In religion we will learn about David
and Saul and their tumultuous relationship. In math the 3rd graders will
work on multiplication and the 4th graders will learn about fractions and
decimals. In reading, we will continue studying alliteration, character
studies, and themes using Dr. Seuss books. In social studies we will
practice some map skills. We will also present our biography projects to
our classmates before presenting them to the school and then our parents at the
Learning Fair.
Mr.
Postenrieder (5-6)
In
our Bible time this week we looked at when we should pray as well as why we
should pray. The lessons on prayer are also a look at our Lord’s Prayer. In 5th
grade math we worked with multiplying fractions, whole numbers, and mixed
numbers. In 6th grade math we
worked with fractions, decimals, and percents. We also took our 14th
test. In our Language Arts time we worked on punctuation. We also looked at the
question “What makes a Perfect Saturday?” In Social Studies we looked at the
countries of East Asia and their physical features. In Science we studied the
theory of Pangaea. We looked at this from a Biblical worldview and a secular
view. In Spelling we took the week off due to PARCC testing and National
Lutheran Schools Week activities.
Mr. Mayo (7-8)
We’re
finishing our History unit, finding that women got the right to vote in
1920. We are amazed that less than 100
years ago, women could not vote. It
boggled our minds a bit to find out that at one time John D. Rockefeller’s
wealth was equal to 1% of the GDP of the United States! When Andrew Carnegie sold his steel company,
he sold it for more than the entire budget of the U.S. at that time! In Literature, we’re discussing speeches and
the biggest differences in reading them and seeing them delivered. We’re learning the role TV plays in getting
points across regardless of whether we agree with the point or not.
Mr. Reisenbichler (7-8)
In religion we will study lesser known
accounts in God’s Word. In 7th
grade math the students are studying the order of operations and sets of all
numbers. They will also be taking the
PARCC math test. In 8th grade
math we are studying the surface area and volume of 3-D figures. In science we are learning about the periodic
table. The students are building a
greenhouse in STEM. We are taking 2 of
the PARCC tests this week.
