Notes
I love the spring when birds make their nests – or should we call them nurseries?  Some birds show remarkable skill in making their nests while others – not so.  I always thought the Oriole made the best of show while the mourning dove was lazy.  As Christians, are we as careful in the building of our character?  Some of the materials we should build a good life with are love, purity, self-denial, steadfastness, zeal, consecration, humility, and meekness.  Did you know that birds build their nests on 3 different levels?  The pelican, killdeer, and others are on a low level.  That is a dangerous place.  A “low life” can always contain.  Some birds build their nests in trees and on or under roofs.  These nests are in a safer location because they are higher.  When we ask God to forgive our sins, He places our life on a higher level.  Eagles build their nests on high cliffs.  After God forgives our sins, God places us even closer to Him and His heavenly kingdom.  The closer we live to our Lord, the more protection we will receive when the Devil tries to tempt us.  What level is best for you and your family?

Classroom information
Mrs. Schulte (Pre-2)
This week in class we studied "Cute Crawling Caterpillars".  We talked about the word 'transformation' and related it to caterpillars turning into butterflies.  We shared the book "Ten Little Caterpillars" by Bill Martin.  We made a butterfly craft, and used pom pom caterpillars in our Math Center to talk about patterns.  During Bible Time, we shared the story of "Saul Becomes a Friend to Jesus".  We ended the day playing a game of caterpillar and butterfly with our parachute.
Mrs. Frey (Pre-3,4)
Preschool is learning letter G for garden. We will focus on the parts of a plant, what plants need to grow, and which parts of plants we eat. Both classes will create flower diagrams and plant their own seeds to take home. In Bible Time 3’s will hear the account of Peter and John healing a crippled man. 4’s will hear how God answers prayers as Peter is released from prison.
Mrs. Reynolds (PK)
This week we start our letter review. This week we will review the letters R, S, T, and U. We will go over their sounds and recall words that begin with each letter. We will also be continuing our lesson on plants and how they grow. We will talk about the things that we eat that come from gardens and discuss healthy and unhealthy food choices. We will also be setting up a grocery store in our dramatic play area and learning about how much things costs at the store. We are continuing to learn how to count by 5's and 10's and remembering the values of US coins. In Bible we are talking about Peter and his sermon in Acts. We will also be starting our end of the year project this week.
Mrs. Sherman (K)
Kindergarten began their rainforest adventure this week.    They learned about the layers of the rainforest and the animals living in those layers.  They began creating a classroom rainforest to explore and enjoy.  During math, the class divided food into equal groups as they listened to The Doorbell Rang.  The also practiced place value with bundles of sticks.  At Bible time, the class heard the account of Pentecost.  The Holy spirit filled the disciples and amazing things happened!  The full day students also built addition towers and completed a rainforest animal sort and graph.  They created colorful toucans to add to the rainforest area.
Mrs. Reisenbichler (1-2)
This week our lessons in Jesus Time were about prayer.  WE never have a shortage of requests in our room.   Achievement testing was completed this week.    Our results should be back before the end of the year.  The writing of our science based stories has begun.  We hope to complete this task by the end of the year.  We also finished our science lessons on space this week.
Mrs. Mayo (3-4)
In religion we continue the account of Elijah, the prophets of Baal, and the contest between God and Baal.  Then we'll learn how Elijah went to heaven.  In reading we will be continuing our character study and then do a writing assignment about the book, The Missing 'Gator of Gumbo Limbo.  In social studies we will learn about specialization and interdependence.  In science we'll learn about the animal kingdom.  In math, the 3rd graders began the week with a chapter test on multiplication and then will work with lines, rays, segments, and angles.  The 4th graders will be working with data and graphs.  We are looking forward to Math Camp at the end of the week!

Notes
I love the spring when I can see leaves appearing on the trees.  The leaf is sometimes called the chemical lab of the tree.  The process of making food by the leaf is baffling.  God has many mysteries in His creation.  Like, how can He love all of us so much?  The leaf is attached to the tree for one purpose – that of supplying food to the plant.  We exist for one reason – to act as the Spirit’s tool for spreading the Gospel.  Leaves perspire when the day is hot.  The Christian can throw off kindness, meekness, gentleness, etc.  Leaves must have sunshine.  They are arranged on the tree so that every leaf will be reached by the sun’s light.  We should not let anything get in the way of receiving the Gospel Light.  Leaves come in different sizes and shapes as verified by our biggest leaf contest last year.  God’s people are different from one another, also.  I know when it is fall because I can see the trees starting to scatter their leaves.  The leaves are here for a season.  We, as Christians, are here only a “season” until God calls us to be with Him in His home.

Classroom information
Mrs. Schulte (Pre-2)
We were 'flying high' this week as we enjoyed our theme about birds and kites.  We shared the Bible Lesson about the First Pentecost by wearing flame hats as we read the story.  During Art we made pine cone bird feeders, and turned our letter V into a Vase filled with lovely spring flowers.  We shared a silly story titled "The ChimpanSNEEZE" by Aaron Zenz.  We ended our day helping Mrs. Schulte fly our class kite outdoors.
Mrs. Frey (Pre-3,4)
Preschool is learning letter R for recycle. We will discuss the 3R’s: reduce, reuse, recycle. 3’s will create drums out of recycled cans. 4’s will create robots out of recycled cardboard. Both classes will read The Lorax. In Bible Time both classes will learn about the gift of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost.
Mrs. Reynolds (PK)
This week preschool is learning about shapes and sorting them. We will be looking at the letter O as we study shapes including our shape of the month ovals. We will also be learning about plant grow and the things plants need to grow. We will read about the life cycle of plants and the different things that grow in gardens. In Bible we will learn about the apostles and their role in the Bible after Jesus' ascendance into heaven. We will be having a special snack at the end of the week that will be made of shapes that we will sort into different categories. It is sure to be a tasty and educational treat.
Mrs. Sherman (K)
During Bible time, the boys and girls will hear of Jesus ascending to heaven.  Math time will be spent reviewing telling time, exchanging coins and showing place value with bundles of craft sticks.  As Kindergarten celebrates Earth Day, they continue to learn about recycling and ways to care for the earth.  Kindergarten will complete a landfill experiment and create Earth Day crafts.  The full day students will practice telling time as they go on a clock hunt.  They will make a flip book titled I Love the Earth!
Mrs. Reisenbichler (1-2)
This week we learned about Jesus' visit with Mary and Martha and the Widow's mite.  These lessons are about service, giving, and putting Jesus first.  I feel so blessed to help children learn these Bible truths and to remind myself of what I must put first in my life.  Our studies of Native Americans continues in first grade.  The children are writing about each group as they learn about them.  Their writings are very impressive.  Second graders will finish their unit on the Chalkbox Kid this week.  In math, the first graders are working with double digit addition and subtraction while the second graders refine their skills in this area.
Mrs. Mayo (3-4)
In religion we will finish the account of Solomon building the temple and then go on to a battle of the Gods - God vs. the Baal.  In reading we will finish reading The Missing 'Gator of Gumbo Limbo.  We will then work on some character studies.  In grammar we are working on plural nouns and possessives - so many rules and so many exceptions!   In math, the 3rd graders will be multiplying multi-digit numbers and then work with positive and negative numbers.  The 4th graders will work with converting fractions to decimals to percents.  In social studies, we will learn about the many kinds of productive resouces.  In science we will learn about dinosaurs.
Mr. Postenrieder (5-6)
In our Bible time this week we looked at the church year and practiced for our chapel presentation on April 29th. In 5th grade math we worked with pan balance problems and practiced our division and order of operations. In 6th grade math we took our 17th test. We also worked with measuring turns. In our Language Arts time we continued writing a story about the life of a gumball. We continued to work with character and theme. In Social Studies we looked at the countries of Central and North Asia. In Science we continued our study of plate tectonics focusing on faults. In Spelling we studied the Latin roots: spect and port.
Mr. Mayo (7,8)
In History, we’re finishing up our unit on the areas surrounding the United States, and our relationships with them.  In Literature, we’re reading essays from both sides of the “Whoever dies with the most toys wins” philosophy.  We’re also discussing how those attitudes about consumerism are affected by our Christian values.  Is it hard to be “in it, but not of it”?
Mr. Reisenbichler (7-8)
In religion we are studying death.  In 7th grade math the students are translating English into math and bisecting angles.   In 8th grade math we are calculating compound interest and geometric probability.  In science we are learning about polymers.  The students are building bridges in STEM.
