Notes
For
those not familiar with the new “rumor”, I will be retiring at the end of this
school year. It will be my 40th
year in the teaching and administration ministry. A committee is established to seek my
replacement.
Important Dates to Know
Oct. 23 Walk-a-thon
September tuition is now
due
Facebook and Principal’s
Blog
St. Mark’s has a Facebook page. If you wish to be “friends”, search for St
Mark’s Lutheran School in Milford.
Several times a week, pictures are posted. I have a blog that I invite you to
bookmark. A new blog is written every
day I am in school. The address is above
and/or on the school’s web site.
Medical Forms
Medical forms are now due in the
office. If you are in kindergarten or 7th
grade, that means you are due for at least one new shot. Any other student whose did not receive any
new shots since last year, does not have to turn in a medical form.
Yearbooks
The 2014-15 yearbook is now
available. If you preordered one, you
may go to the office for your copy. If
you wish to purchase one or more, please pay the office $12/book.
Dress Down Day
Students in K-8 may dress down this
Friday for $1. This is a 7-8 grade
fund-raiser. If you do not bring your
dollar by Thursday, Friday you must pay $2.
Any student that has not paid by Friday, will owe $3 on Monday.
Epistle News
The Principal’s Epistle will always be
published on Wednesdays that school is in session. The first two weeks, everyone will receive a
hard copy. If you wish a hard copy
starting in September, please notify the office. Otherwise, the Epistle will be emailed, made
available on my blog, and accessible on our school’s web page.
Box Tops for Education
Welcome
back to school! I pray that all of our
students will have a wonderful God Blessed School Year! Once again we are collecting Box Top$ for
Education. Clip and send your Box Top$
to school with your child(ren) each week and have your child place the Box Top$
in their classroom collection bag or container.
Each Wednesday when I am at the school, I will collect them and take
care of sending them in before each deadline.
Our first deadline will be Sept. 23rd.
With
this first collection we are going to have a contest to see which classroom can
collect the most Box Top$ per student.
That classroom will receive a special treat. Our winners last year were the 7th
& 8th grade room and the Two Year classroom. I hope they all enjoyed their ice cream
treat.
A
list of the products that you will find Box Top$ on will be by the school
entrance and in the Church Narthex area. Watch for BONUS points on your grocery
receipt and in the newspaper when they have special promotions. Be sure to ask grandmas and grandpas, aunts
and uncles, and friends to save their Box Top$ for you and St. Mark’s Lutheran
School. It is helpful if you would trim
the Box Tops on the designated line around the Box Top$. Gil and Judi Schepmann, coordinators.
Happy Birthday

Mrs. Frey
(P-3 & P-4)
Preschool is back in
session! Our theme and letter of the week will be M for All About ME as we
share more about ourselves and make new friends. Both classes will create
different bee artwork to kick-off the Bee Attitudes theme. We will also create
class books to get to know each other. During Bible Time both classes will
learn the creation story and how we are God’s favorite creation!
Mrs.
Reynolds (PK & P-2)
P-2 I had the pleasure of meeting all
of the adorable, energetic 2 year olds this week! We are all very excited about
starting the year together! This week will be a fun week of introductions! Our
theme this month is "On the Pond"! This week is "Hop into a New
School Year"! We will practice saying our first names as we introduce
ourselves to our classmates. We are going to be learning about the creation story
in the Bible and how God made the whole world!! We will go over classroom rule
and practice making a line. We will read the fun story of the "Five Little
Speckled Frogs" and learn what noises frogs can make. We
will hop around the classroom like frogs to tune our gross motor skills and
practice drawing on a vertical surface to develop some fine motor skills. Our
new friends will get extra cuddles and love as they adjust to being at school
this week. We are sure to have a fantastic first week in Preschool!!!!
Pre-K After
months of anticipation and preparation it is the first week of Preschool!! We
are all very excited to begin the school year! Our Pre-K class is full and
ready to learn! This week we are learning all about the classroom, the rules
and schedule. We are also getting to know our new classmates. The theme this
week is "All About Me". The students will be completing journals in
which they draw pictures and tell their classmates and teachers about
themselves and some of their favorite things In Bible we will learn the
wonderful story of creation and how God has made the whole world! We will even
make creation posters to give us a visual aid as we retell the story at home!
Our letter of the week is the letter F. Students will participate in various
activities to get to know this letter. They will go on a letter hunt and spy
the letter f's around the classroom. Students will use stamps to imprint the
letter F in play-doh and walk in a taped F on the floor, as well as think of
words that begin with the letter F.
We have a
week full of fun and excitement! It is going to be a fantastic year!
Mrs.
Sherman (K)
This is a
short but busy and productive week in Kindergarten! During Bible time,
the class will hear about Adam’s and Eve’s
disobedience to God and the consequences of their actions. But, that was
not the end of the story. God promised to send a Savior,
Jesus, because He loves us, His people, so much. As Kindergarten
explores families during reading, they will also rhyme, identify nouns and
summarize. They enjoy working with partners and individually as they
experience literacy and math centers. The class will complete number
books for 3 and 4, create color patterns and craft a Humpty Dumpty
measurement activity in math. The full day students will begin a fairy
tale unit with a look at Jack and The Beanstalk. They will
identify elements of fairy tales, retell and sequence the story and measure and
compare the giant to themselves. In Spanish, the boys and girls will
name foods and playing food bingo.
Mrs.
Reisenbichler (1)
This week in religion, we learned
about the birth of Isaac and Isaac's sons, Jacob and Esau. In this lesson
we learn that families have had problems of many different kinds for a long
time, but God still loves us despite our family problems and desires
reconciliation. We also learned about possessive nouns, compound words,
characters, text evidence, realistic fiction and nonfiction stories in language
arts. In science, we started learning about the raccoon.
Ms.
Rhonemus (2)
After a lovely three day weekend the second graders finished their
first math unit and took their first math test of the year. In reading we
are comparing and contrasting different books and determining whether the books
were written for entertainment or informational purposes. Meanwhile in
writing the second graders are writing personal narratives while focusing on
adding adjectives to their sentences. Seventh and eighth graders learned
about nutrition and the digestive system this week.
Mrs. Mayo (3-4)
This week we moved into the New
Testament in religion. We'll be learning about John the Baptist. In
reading, we continued to read about Helen Keller while working on figurative
language, cause & effect, inferences, predictions, and summarizing.
In grammar we began learning about subjects and verbs. In social studies
we learned about Rhode Island. In science we began our science newspapers
and talked about the tools used in science and the steps used in doing
experiments. In math, the 3rd graders worked with money, patterns, and
elapsed time. The 4th graders reviewed a chapter, took a test, and began
a new chapter using data to learn about Washington, D.C.
Mr. Postenrieder (5-6)
In
our Bible time this week we looked at God’s promise to Abraham. We also
discussed the first two Beatitudes. In 5th grade math we took our
first test. We also worked with estimation and compass art. In 6th grade math we also took our
first test. We also worked with frequency tables, histograms, surveys, and
problems about combining. In our Language Arts time we continued reading Summer of the Monkeys and taking
character notes. We will use our notes to write a conclusion-proof paragraph.
In Social Studies we continued our review of geography basics. In Science we
began work on the Science Fair. We also looked at why we study science. In
Spelling we worked through our third lesson with a theme from Proverbs 1:7.
Mr. Mayo (7,8)
We are
reviewing for our first test in History.
The first test is always a little strange for students new to a
teacher. They aren’t sure what the
teacher thought was important enough to test.
In a while, they’ll play “psyche the teacher” and get a better handle on
that. In Literature we’re about to
embark on our first novel of the year, Steinbeck’s The Red Pony. I look forward
to guiding the students through one of this great writer’s lesser-known works.
Mr. Reisenbichler (7-8)
In religion we are studying how to
worship God. In 7th grade
math the students are solving word problems and calculating simple probability. In 8th grade math we are studying
per cents and solving decimal and fraction problems. The students are making statistical graphs
involving candy in STEM.
