Saint Salute
o
A
big Saint Salute and thanks for all those substitute teachers that are helping
to continue the excellent education at St. Mark’s this week.
Notes
How
many have the flu or strep? It seems to
me that we have more cases than ever before.
Mrs. Mayo has not missed this much school total in her 40 years of
teaching. This is an unusual
situation. I am grateful for the long
list of substitute teachers available.
We will continue to only place the best sub available in your child’s
classroom so that the spiritual and academic growth may continue. Let’s hope that Christmas vacation will
“clear” the air.
Important Dates to Know
16 Preschool Christmas
Program (7PM)
18 K-8 Christmas Service
(7PM)
Christmas Programs
The preschool Christmas program will
include Pre-3, Pre-4, and PK. Pre-2 is
not included. Their program will be on Tuesday,
December 16 at 7PM. It should last less
than 30 minutes. The K-8 musical is on
Thursday, December 18 at 7PM. Both
programs are not services and therefore photography is allowable. However, please do not make it a
distraction.
AR
The AR site will be available during
the Christmas vacation 8AM – 8PM. The
site can be found on our web page under parent resources.
Spelling Bee
The St. Mark’s Spelling Bee will be on
Monday, January 12, starting at 10:30.
Students may start studying the words found at www.spellingbee.com.
Scripts
St. Mark’s belongs to the
scripts company which sells gift cards at a profit to the school. Each child brought an order form home. Additional forms are in the office.
New Pizza Company
Due to several factors, we
will no longer be serving Pizza Hut pizza on Fridays. Instead, Marco Pizza will be served. Those factors affecting the decision were
distance from school, quality of delivered pizza, and customer service.
Box Tops Update
The Box Tops keep coming in for the
"Make Your Own Sundae" contest.
The Kindergarten class has moved in front of Grades 3 & 4 (second
place). 7th & 8th are in third with
5th & 6th running a close fourth.
With all the Box Tops turned in we were able to send in another
1650. Keep bringing them in and remember
to ask your friends and relatives to save them for your class. Also, remember to turn them in by December
19th.

Preschool
will focus on letter Y for Yellow Star this week! We are excitedly preparing
for the celebration of Jesus’ birth and continuing to practice for our
Christmas program! Just like the wise men brought gifts to Jesus, both classes
will make gifts for their parents. We will read The First Christmas Night
and Song of the Stars and retell the account of Jesus’ birth with
nativity figures.
Mrs.
Reynolds (PK)

Mrs.
Sherman (K)
Kindergarten
is excitedly preparing for Christmas! During Bible time, they will hear
about the first Christmas. They will learn of the angel's announcement,
to the shepherds, of the Savior's birth! For art, the boys and girls will
make and decorate a moose named Mooseltoe. They will also count syllables
in various Christmas words, sound out CVC words, play "Top-it" and
weigh objects on a pan balance. The full day students are learning about Las
Posadas during Spanish and will tally and graph Christmas lights for math.
Mrs.
Reisenbichler (1-2)
This week the
children continued to learn about the prophet Elijah in Jesus Time. We had a lot of absences and plans got
changed. First graders worked on parts
of speech and second graders worked to improve on weaknesses. They are beginning a new unit on fairy
tales. In science we are attempting a
new STEM project.
Mrs. Mayo (3-4)
In religion we'll be starting the
Christmas account in the Bible. In language arts we'll be working with
irregular verbs and be writing some poetry. In math, the 3rd graders
begin the week with a test and then will move on to working with large
numbers. The 4th graders will also work with large numbers and powers of
10. In social studies we'll continue to learn about the early Indians in
Ohio by learning about the tribes during the late prehistoric phase. In
science we'll be learning about different kinds of rocks.
Mr. Postenrieder (5-6)
In our Bible
time this week we decorated our classroom and saw how Jesus is a prophecy and a
prophet. In 5th grade math we worked with percents, bar graphs, and
circle graphs. In 6th grade we worked with circumference,
subtracting mixed numbers, dividing by a decimal number and dividing by
fractions. In our Language Arts time we continued to read and work with the
book: The Great Gilly Hopkins. We
built our vocabulary and worked on understanding characters through character
perspectives. In Social Studies we
completed our fabric square drawings. We also learned about tourist attractions
and arts and crafts of Africa. We made our African mask. In Science we
continued our study of plants by focusing on nonvascular plants. In Spelling we studied words with
alternations long to short and included the schwa sound.
Mr. Mayo (7-8)
In History,
we’re looking into the lives of the great corporate giants of the late
1800’s. The students enjoy hearing the
stories of these men, the risks they took, and their seeming ability to see
what was coming, historically. We’re also
learning how the average worker lived, to support those lavish lifestyles. We’re reading radio plays, trying to give
people the impression that they are part of life as it is being portrayed. It’s nice when our Literature lines up with
our History classes.
Mr. Reisenbichler (7-8)
In religion we will study what God’s Word
says about decision making. In 7th
grade math the students are plotting functions and working with symmetry. The 8th grade is finding the
slope-intercept equation of a line and solving percent problems with equations. In science we are finally finishing our study
of cells and heredity. The students are planning
and making a game in STEM.
The Cookie Walk is back!
