Notes
How
can we as parents raise our child(ren) for the Kingdom? I see four very important steps.
1) Model
– Children learn from observing their parents.
So if we want our children to grow into faithful Christians, we need to
be role models for what a Christian life looks like: regular worship
attendance, daily Scripture reading and prayer, faithful giving, acts of
service, and so on.
2) Teach
– If you are faithfully modeling a Christian life for your kids, then what you
say to them about the faith will stick all the better. Why do you go to church? Why do you set aside a first-fruits
proportion of your income for the support of Word and Sacrament ministry? Why do you volunteer at church? Tell you kids these things.
3) Involve
– As your children grow, involve them in more and more activities of your
Christian life. Of course, you already
attend worship with them, but as they grow they can mark the hymns, help make
out the tithe and offering checks, and tag along to all of the service events
and other volunteer opportunities at your church.
4) Repeat
– Parenting never ends. The role changes
as children (and we) grow older, but it still comes down to modeling, teaching
and involving them in the activities that make for greater maturity and a godly
life.

Parents’ Night
Out Babysitting Fundraiser-December 6
The 7–8 grade students of St. Mark’s school invite you to have a night out on Saturday, December 6, 5:00–10:00 pm. Parents with children from infants to 6th grade may drop them at St. Mark’s so they can spend some quality time together. The students will watch them under adult supervision with a variety of activities, games, pizza dinner ($3), and other forms of fellowship. Children will be divided into groups based on age. A free will donation will be taken upon pickup. The proceeds will go toward their end-of-the-year trip. When was the last time you had a date with your spouse or time to shop without the kids?

Student Council
Cookie Fun Night
St.
Mark’s Student Council is sponsoring a cookie exchange on Friday, December 5 in
the Fellowship Hall 7-8:30 PM. Each
family is encouraged to bring two dozen (24) cookies. There will also be games, snacks, and
activities.
Kindergarten Delay
Changes
St. Mark’s kindergarten
will dismiss at 11:30 AM for half-day students when we have a 1 hr. delay for
school starting. On a 2-hour delay, the
half-day students will dismiss at 11:45 AM.
Scripts
St. Mark’s belongs to the
scripts company which sells gift cards at a profit to the school. Each child is coming home with an order
form. Additional forms are in the
office.
New Pizza Company
Due to several factors, we
will no longer be serving Pizza Hut pizza on Fridays. Instead, Marco Pizza will be served. Those factors affecting the decision were
distance from school, quality of delivered pizza, and customer service.
Box Tops Update
The Box Tops collecting is coming
along slowly. We have collected a total
of 498 Box Top points that amounts to $49.80 since the beginning of the
"Make Your Own Sundae" contest.
The top 3 classrooms are 3rd and 4th grade room with 8.18; 7th and 8th
with 7.14; and 5th and 6th with 6.14 Box Tops per child. Their classes together have collected 316 of
the 498 Box Tops. Be sure to ask your
grandma, aunts, and friends to save those Box Tops for you so your class has a
better chance of winning the "Make Your Own Sundae" contest. You have until Dec. 19th to turn the Box Tops
in to your classroom teacher.
Happy Birthday

Preschool will focus on Gingerbread this week! We will read The
Gingerbread Man and The Gingerbread Baby. 3’s will practice
gingerbread lacing and decorate their own gingerbread man. 4’s will create
gingerbread ornaments and write a class book about the gingerbread man. In
Bible Time we will continue to learn about the events surrounding the birth of
Jesus through our practices for the Christmas program. He is the reason for the
season!
Mrs.
Reynolds (PK)

Mrs.
Sherman (K)
Kindergarten
is preparing and waiting for Christmas as they hear about John at Bible
time. God had a special plan for John. He was to prepare the way
for the Savior! During math, the class will learn about probability as
they determine if an outcome is certain, possible or impossible. They
will also play games with number cards. At reading time, the boys and
girls will buddy read and practice decoding skills. Kindergarten will
hear the story of the Nutcracker Ballet and create a guided drawing of a
nutcracker during art. The full day students will begin a science unit
about the life cycle of a Christmas tree. They will also measure a
Christmas tree using nonstandard measurement and work cooperatively to play
"Spin An Elf", an ending sounds game.
Mrs.
Reisenbichler (1-2)
This week the
children learned how God provides for our needs as they learned about
Elijah. In math, the second graders started learning about line
segments and points. They also worked on mastering the partial sums
algorithm. The first graders worked on measurement. They
compared a standard foot to their foot. in language arts first
graders worked on identifying types of sentences and verb
tense. Second graders finished up their unit on immigration by
writing about the Statue of Liberty . Check out my web-site to see
their pictures dressed as the statue. In science we started working
on a STEM project.
Mrs. Mayo (3-4)
In religion, we read and studied about
the Israelites at Mt. Sinai and God giving them the 10 commandments. In
language arts, we did a lot of writing and practiced irregular verbs. In
math, the 3rd graders worked with map scale, area, and practiced
multiplication. The 4th graders estimated products and worked on
multiplying large numbers. In social studies we learned about the Adena,
Hopewell, and Woodland Indians here in Ohio. In science, we learned about
volcanoes and earth movements.
Mr. Postenrieder (5-6)
In our Bible
time this week we learned why it’s important Jesus was true man and how he
serves as our substitute. In 5th grade math we began to compare
decimals with fractions. In 6th grade math we enjoyed our 8th
test! We also worked with equivalent division problems, simplifying decimals,
and dividing decimals by a whole number. In our Language Arts time we continued
to read and work with the book: The Great
Gilly Hopkins. We built our vocabulary and worked on understanding
characters through character perspectives.
In Social Studies we presented our power points on West Africa. We also
looked at the different types of farming and made a quilt with common patterns
used in Africa. In Science we continued our study of plants by focusing on
photosynthesis. In Spelling we studied
words with alternations long to short.
Mr. Mayo (7-8)
In History
we’re moving into the Industrial Revolution in the U.S. It always amazes me what risk-takers these
people were, and how they almost seem to see history coming! I’m not sure we all would have been so
successful at the time. It is my prayer
that each of the students comes away from these studies with an understanding
that God has truly blessed our country!
Did you know that the U.S. has 176,000 miles of navigable rivers? That’s more than the rest of the world,
combined!
Mr. Reisenbichler (7-8)
In religion we will study what God’s Word
says about prayer. In 7th
grade math the students are solving rate and ratio word problems and plotting
functions. The 8th grade is graphing
functions, learning the various types of angles, and learning how to draw nets
with geometric figures. In science we
are studying the genetic disorders. The
students are planning and making a car in STEM that goes fast down a hill but
climbs up another smaller one.
The Cookie Walk is back!
