Notes
A little bit more on delayed gratification.  Learning good stewardship regarding money is a great way to develop delayed gratification as well as good financial literacy.  Help your children to divide their allowance, tooth fairy, and gift money into spending, saving, and tithing portions.  Show them how you make plans for money and connect treat activities and vacations to the benefits of saving money on smaller, less enjoyable things.  Be sure to point out how the church uses offering money.  Attending church each week has its own benefits in  forgiveness and faith.  Church also offers parents a unique opportunity to teach children how to pay attention to what is happening in the moment.  As your children grow, so should your expectation of their ability to participate in church.  Teach your children the prayers, hymns, liturgy, ad about the beauty of confession and forgiveness so that they can participate in a meaningful way.  If you bring along quiet toys, begin to reduce the times in the service when the toys are accessible so that your children’s attention is available to take in the service as you quietly point out what is happening.  On the way home from church, talk about the children’s message. All of this will help your child to grow in faith as well as the ability to wait.

Classroom information
Mrs. Schulte (Pre-2)
Our class began our new theme this month, "About Town" with a focus on "Moving Mail and Making Valentines".  We changed our Dramatic Play area to the Preschool Post Office complete with mailboxes, envelopes, cards, and stamp.  We shared the book Move by Steve Jenkins and Robin Page.  During Art we made our own Valentine's mailboxes.  During Bible Time we shared the story of "Samuel as a Boy" and made very BIG listening ears to remind us of 1 Samuel 3:10, "Speak Lord, your servant is listening".  We ended the day with a fun game of Package Delivery Relay.
Mrs. Frey (Pre-3,4)
Preschool is studying letter X for X Ray. We will focus on dental health as February is Dental Health month. 3’s will practice flossing and brushing in their artwork and fine motor skills practice. Both classes will learn about foods that make our teeth happy and sad. 4’s will make a collage of healthy and unhealthy foods and create their own elephant toothpaste as a science experiment. In Bible Time both classes will learn about Jesus special love and attention to children when He blessed them despite His disciples’ objections.
Mrs. Reynolds (PK)
This week Pre-K will be learning about the letter X. We will be talking about Doctors and Dentist and how they keep us healthy. Our classroom has been transformed into a "doctors office".  We will also discuss how we can stay healthy by eating nutritious foods, washing our hands often, covering our mouths when we cough, and brushing our teeth. We will also be checking our eyesight and doing some surgery on some sight words. In Bible we are discussing how God blesses us and counting our blessings.
Mrs. Sherman (K)
It's another busy week of learning in Kindergarten. The class will  explore their senses through several sensory activities.  They will participate in "character chat" as they describe a storybook character.  During math, Kindergarten will count using a calculator, make craft stick patterns and write numbers to 100.  They also continue to identify coins and their value.  At Bible time, the class will hear the account of Jesus turning water into wine.  The children know they can turn to Him when they face big problems or small ones.  The full day students are enjoying Hooway For Wodney Wat, a story that focuses on bullying and turning perceived weaknesses into strengths.  They will also "add the room", create a snowman glyph and analyze the data and use their senses to investigate popcorn.
Mrs. Reisenbichler (1-2)
This week we learned about Jesus first miracle in Cana and how all of Jesus's miracles were intended to bring people to faith.  In language arts, the first graders started reading cumulative stories before reading Bringing the Rains to Kapiti Plain.  The second graders started a new unit based around the story Amelia Bedelia.  First graders worked with ar words this week.  They made pirates and searched for treasure.  In science, the children completed their unit on observing matter.
Mrs. Mayo (3-4)
This week in religion we will be going over the amazing account of Sampson - how God chose him, how he sinned, and then repented.  In reading we're almost through The Whipping Boy and we finally see a change in some of the characters.  We continue to work with prefixes and suffixes.  In math, both grades are finishing up chapter and will be taking chapter tests - the 3rd graders on fractions and the 4th graders on dividing and angles.  Then the 3rd graders will start a chapter on lines, rays, and segments while the 4th graders will begin their chapter on fractions.  In social studies we will learn about the Northwest Territory and the immigrants of the 1800s.  In science we will learn about the solar system and we'll try our hand at making a scale model of it in art.  In Spanish, we'll review the parts of the body by playing a Bingo game.
Mr. Postenrieder (5-6)
In our Bible time this week we looked at how Jesus is manifest in our lives as well as is our discipleship passive or active. In 5th grade math we worked with scientific notation, order of operations, and line graphs. We are now working with exponential notation. In 6th grade math we added fractions, subtracted mixed numbers, classified quadrangles, and found prime factors through factor trees and division. In our Language Arts time we continued our study of bullying. In Social Studies we worked with the countries of Central Africa. In Science we continued our study of plants by reading and noting a section of our textbook dealing with feeding the world. We will look at new ways to grow food.  In Spelling we added the suffixes  ic, -ity, -ty, -ous.
Mr. Mayo (7-8)
We are finishing  A Separate Peace,  which gave us pause, like the characters, poised between childhood and adulthood.  It’s our job to prepare them for whatever kind of world they will face, but no matter what the world is like, our world view is focused on Christ.  We are finishing our study of the late 1800’s and early 1900s, and how immigrants were forced to live, sometimes.  We learned about Jacob Riis, who, in his fervor to take pictures of immigrants and the way they lived, almost set fire to a tenement!
Mr. Reisenbichler (7-8)
In religion we will study lesser known accounts in God’s Word.  In 7th grade math the students are studying implied ratios, negative numbers, and fractional word problems.  In 8th grade math we are studying multiple unit multipliers, formulas for sequences, and square roots.  In science we are learning about phases of matter.  The students are building and testing a well- insulated coat in STEM.
