Notes
Would you like your child (ren) to be more responsible, hardworking, and persistent?  You can work as a family to help your youngster develop these important traits.  You can take a group approach – thinking of themselves as a team player can encourage your child to be responsible.  Explain that your family operates as a team.  Everyone must play a part to get things done.  Your child probably has regular chores to do.  You can motivate them to work extra hard by placing “want ads” on the refrigerator.  Choose a challenging job, and offer a benefit.  Working toward small goals can make it easier to complete a big task.  Perhaps your family room needs a fresh coat of paint.  Write down the steps (move furniture and lay down drop cloths, prepare walls, roll paint on walls, paint trim).  Tell your child you’ll take a fun break after each step is done (go to the playground, take a bike ride, go hiking, etc.).

The 7–8 grade students of St. Mark’s school invite you to have a night out on Saturday, February 21, 5:00–9:00 pm. Parents with children from infants to 6th grade may drop them at St. Mark’s so they can spend some quality time together. The students will watch them under adult supervision with a variety of activities, games, pizza dinner ($3), and other forms of fellowship. Children will be divided into groups based on age. A free will donation will be taken upon pickup. The proceeds will go toward their end-of-the-year trip. When was the last time you had a date with your spouse or time to shop without the kids?

Classroom information
Mrs. Schulte (Pre-2)
This week we began the day "Around Town" sharing the story It Looked Like Spilt Milk by Charles Shaw.  The children then made their own folded paint print in Art.  They later filled their bubble Letter L with Lego stamping.  Later we shared the Bible story of "David and Goliath", and illustrated the story in a big way by shooting marshmallows at the giant Goliath.  We ended the day celebrating Valentine's Day with a class party filled with great snacks, games, and crafts.
Mrs. Frey (Pre-3,4)
V is for Valentine! In this short week 3’s will meet the dentist for Dental Health month, create valentines for their families, and have a class party on Thursday. AM 4’s will have a special valentine sign language presentation and their class party on Wednesday. Both classes will make valentines boxes, and the 4’s AM class will create theirs with their chapel buddies. In Bible Time 3’s will hear the parable of the Good Samaritan, which reminds us to show mercy to others. 4’s will hear of Jesus’ visit with Mary and Martha. Mary’s devotion to sit and listen to Jesus shows us that her priorities are in order.
Mrs. Reynolds (PK)
This week Pre-K is celebrating Valentines Day! We will be having our party Thursday at 2pm! In the spirit of love we will be talking about God's love for us and how he showed us how much he truly loves us by sending Jesus to die for our sins! We will also be learning about the letter V, practicing putting letters in alphabetical order and making a few fun valentine crafts! We will also be discussing dental hygiene a bit further as we will be visited by a local dentist!
Mrs. Sherman (K)
Kindergarten celebrates dental health week with a visit from a dentist, reading an emergent reader about keeping teeth healthy and brushing away germs while solve subtraction problems.  They also celebrate Valentine's Day with a party on Thursday.  They continue studying senses as they focus on taste.  Will they be able to tell the difference between salt and sugar by using sight and touch but not taste? The class is having fun with words as they substitute beginning sounds to create new words and identify rhyming words in word families. At Bible time, the boys and girls will hear the account of Jesus blessing the children.  Although they do not physically feel Jesus, like the children did in the Bible, He is with them, holding them close.  The full day students rotate through literacy centers, "add the room" and complete a Valentine addition craft.  They are studying Roses are Pink, Your Feet Really Stink!  as they identify the problem and solution and make predictions about the text.
Mrs. Reisenbichler (1-2)
In Jesus Time, we learned about Jesus healing paralyzed man.  Second graders started working with fractions in math while the first graders expanded their ability to tell time.  In science, we are learning about the three states of matter.   Second graders did a lot of writing and editing this week.  First graders are just about finished writing poems about weather.  First graders are researching elephants and zebras in class.
Mrs. Mayo (3-4)
During this Valentine Week, we thank God for loving us!  In religion we will be reading the account of Hannah and Samuel.  In reading, we will be finishing The Whipping Boy and looking at more of the figurative language in the book.  In social studies we will learning about the frontier wars between the settlers and the Native Americans.  In science we will try to finish making our models of the planets in our solar system. In math, the 3rd graders will begin a chapter on multiplication while the 4th graders work with fractions and mixed numbers.  In Spanish, we will continue playing Body Word Bingo.  We'll end the week with a Valentine's party where we'll see who wins the contest for our decorated Valentine boxes.
Mr. Postenrieder (5-6)
In our Bible time this week we looked at how we can be disciples of Jesus and the power of prayer. WE also began creating a bulletin board on prayer based on 1 Peter 5:7. In 5th grade math we worked with adding and subtracting negative numbers. In 6th grade math we took our 12th test and learned how to multiply mixed numbers. We also worked on reducing large fractions through prime factorization. In our Language Arts time we continued our study of bullying. In Social Studies we worked with the countries of South Africa. In Science we completed our study of plants and began looking at the layers of the Earth. In Spelling we added the suffixes  -able.
Mr. Mayo (7-8)
We start a new unit in history – The Progressive Era.  During this time the role of government changed somewhat from what it had been during the first century of our nation’s history.  In my opinion, one of our greatest presidents, Theodore Roosevelt, was given the office because of an assassin’s bullet.  He may never have made it to the presidency without this “accident” of history.  God is good, no matter what is going on.
Mr. Reisenbichler (7-8)
In religion we will study lesser known accounts in God’s Word.  In 7th grade math the students are studying complex fractions, percents, and inequalities.  In 8th grade math we are studying volumes of prisms and cylinders, inequalities, and square root products..  In science we are learning about phases of matter.  The students are building and testing a well- insulated coat in STEM.
