Notes
Have you registered yet for next year? Your re-enrollment form is being sent home
today via your child(ren). Tuition and
book fees for K-8 were combined into one tuition amount. Thus, there will be no separate book fee next
year. Also, grades 1 & 2 will be
separate classes in separate classrooms.
Mrs. Reisenbichler will probably teach grade 1. We are starting our search for a 2nd
grade teacher. Mr. Reisenbichler will
not teach the entire morning in grades 7-8.
A part-time teacher is being sought for this position. Families are encouraged to register prior to
Open House on January 25 – the day that the community may first enroll. The enrollment fee will not increase for next
year.

Classroom information
Mrs. Schulte (Pre-2)
We continued our
theme this month "At the Zoo" and we had "A BEARY Good
Day". We shared the book We're Going on a Bear Hunt by
Michael Rosen and Helen Oxenbury, and went on our own 'bear hunt'. During
Center Time the children enjoyed playing in a 'bear cave' and reading stories
to a very large but friendly brown bear. We filled our bubble letter H
with different textured hearts. During Bible Time, we shared the account
of "Baby Moses" and made our own baby Moses in a basket to take home
and remind us that God was watching over baby Moses and God watches over
us.
Mrs. Frey
(Pre-3,4)
Preschool
is studying letter P for Penguins this week! 3’s will create torn paper
penguins and discover how penguins stay warm in the cold Antarctic waters. 4’s
will make paper tube penguins and create a class book entitled “Penguins Can…”
Both classes will make penguins for our classroom door. During Bible Time 3’s
will learn about Jesus’ baptism and how He set an example for us even though He
was without sin. 4’s will learn about Jesus’ healing power as he gives sight to
blind Bartimaeus.
Mrs.
Reynolds (PK)
This week in Pre-K we are learning
about Penguins and the letter P! We will be discussing the different kinds of
penguins and how they live. In Bible we will learn about David and how he
served the Lord by standing up to a giant. David was brave because he knew God
was with him and we will learn that God is always with us too. We will also be
practicing our handwriting and word building skills in our centers this week!
Mrs.
Sherman (K)
At Bible
time, Kindergarten heard the account of Jesus studying God's word at the
temple. The class explored new math centers, worked
with calculators and compared shapes at math time. They learned
interesting facts about Inuits and igloos. They also practiced including
details when retelling a story, sounding out CVC words and labeling
pictures. The full day students had fun with penguins as they created
penguin shapes and completed penguin addition. They heard the book, The
Snowy Day and participated in several activities focused on the
story. They made inferences, connected the text to their personal
experiences and created a snowy day picture.
Mrs.
Reisenbichler (1-2)
In Jesus Time
this week, we traveled in time back to the Old Testament to learn about Josiah,
the boy king. In this lesson we learned the importance of surrounding
yourself with good influences and the turning away from what is displeasing to
God. In math, the second graders started working on the
beginning concepts of multiplication and division. First graders continue
to work on math facts and adding multiple numbers. Second graders
finished reading Sleeping Ugly and are now working with phonics skills
and writing skills. First graders are learning about character traits and
searching for suffixes in our trade book. In science, the children are
learning about matter and mixtures.
Mrs. Mayo (3-4)
We worked on our chapel play this week
in religion. In reading we continued reading The Whipping Boy and
have all decided that we are glad that is not a job choice for us! In
social studies we learned about the Ottowa and Mingo Indians. In science
we learned about moon phases and why we have seasons. In Spanish we
continued to review words about face parts. In Math, the 3rd graders
worked on decimals before taking their chapter test. The 4th graders
worked on long division.
Mr. Postenrieder (5-6)
In our Bible
time this week we looked at the reason Jesus redeemed us. In 5th
grade math we worked on sample data and adding fractions. In 6th
grade math we took our 10th test. We also worked on organizing data,
and adding and subtracting fractions. In
our Language Arts time we worked on our Learning Fair papers. We also worked on
first person character views. In Social
Studies we worked with the countries of East Africa and presented power points.
In Science we continued our study of plants by reading and noting a section of
our textbook dealing with gymnosperms.
In Spelling we added suffixes to words and looked at the change in the
sounds of the syllables.
Mr. Mayo (7-8)
This week we
began reading A Separate Peace, By John Knowles.
It’s a coming-of-age book, set in an all-boys’ school during the Second
World War. It’s such a great study of
friendship and the differences among people, even those with much in
common. In History, we’ve begun to study
immigration patterns in the late 19th and early 20th
centuries. We’ll naturally make some
parallels to the problems we face with Immigration now.
Mr. Reisenbichler (7-8)
In religion we will study what God’s Word
says about decision making. In 7th
grade math the students are adding and subtracting integers, finding the
characteristics of triangles, and solving ratio word problems. In 8th grade math we are
converting rates, solving similar triangle missing information, and finding the
area of a triangle. In science we are learning
about elements, compounds, and molecules.
The students are planning and making a ski lift in STEM.
