Notes
Is (was) your new year’s resolution to be more
physically fit? With this nice weather
lately it is easier to get out and do something. Walk for 30 minutes or join a local gym. It is never too late to start. Also, start slow and very gradually, increase
your pace. Set reasonable goals. Once you achieve them, set new ones. I love that I have seen several of you at
Planet Fitness in recent weeks. Let’s
go!

Calendar Changes for
15-16 School Year
St. Mark’s will not have Teacher’s
Conference Oct. 19-20, 2015 as the published calendar stated last
Wednesday. It will be October
15-16. No school will be held on Oct.
15-16, 2015.
Family Fun Night January
22
St. Mark’s
will hold another Family Fun Night away from our school. All families are invited to the Rainbow
Swing Set Superstores,
848 Molly Lane Milford, OH 45150 on Thursday, Jan. 22, 6-7:30 PM. You can come at any time and leave as you
desire. There is no charge for this fun
time to play on 16 different playgrounds, indoors. A liability waiver was attached(last week)
for your convenience or one can be completed at the door.
Enrollment for 15-16
Your re-enrollment form was sent home last week. The
form did not include a Pre-3 PM option.
That class is being offered for next year. Tuition and book fees for K-8 were combined
into one tuition amount. Thus, there
will be no separate book fee next year.
Also, grades 1 & 2 will be separate classes in separate
classrooms. Mrs. Reisenbichler will
probably teach grade 1. We are starting
our search for a 2nd grade teacher.
Mr. Reisenbichler will not teach the entire morning in grades 7-8. A part-time teacher is being sought for this
position. Families are encouraged to
register prior to Open House on January 25 – the day that the community may
first enroll. The enrollment fee will
not increase for next year.
National Lutheran School
Week
St. Mark’s will be celebrating
National Lutheran Schools Week March 8 – 13 this year. If any parent wishes to help plan that
weeklong event, please see Mr. Reisenbichler.
Box Tops Update
We hope you are still collecting the
Box Tops for Education points. We had a
successful campaign before Christmas and now we are going to have a second
challenge. The new campaign will be
starting February 4th and will run until March 18th. Again, the classroom that collects the most
points per student will have a "Make Your Own Sundae" treat. The 7th and 8th grade room won the last one
and had their treat last week. We hope
they enjoyed every mouthful of ice cream and toppings. So start collecting
those Box Tops and bring them in starting February 4th. We hope another classroom will be the winner
this time!
Camp Lakeview
Camp Lakeview, a Lutheran camp in Indiana,
is mailing brochures about their summer programs and will start accepting
registrations this year on Feb. 2nd.
Students who have completed second grade through eighth grade may attend
a week-long session. Weekend sessions
with parents are available for younger campers.
Campers can request cabin mates on their forms, so you may want to
discuss with classmates which week your campers want to attend.
For campers who wish to attend in the same
week as their friends, the camp suggests mailing registration forms and
deposits together, and to ensure a first choice, it is recommended that these
be postmarked on Feb 2nd.
Registration forms can be printed from the website, if you have not yet
received a brochure (www.camplakeview.com).
To facilitate mailing registration
forms together, you may send your completed form and deposit (payable to Camp
Lakeview) with your child to school.
Please mark the envelope “Camp Lakeview Registration – Attn: Mrs.
Schepmann” by the end of the school day on Wednesday,
January 28th, if you would like your form to be included in the
group packet. (Thank you to Michelle
Huhn who has agreed to mail the packet to ensure the February 2nd
postmark.) If you would like to mail
your registration forms directly to the camp, that is perfectly acceptable –
just do not postmark before February 2nd, or it will be held until
after registrations with on-time postmarks are reviewed.
If you have questions about Camp Lakeview,
Paula Schepmann (Schepmann@gmail.com or 513-314-9957), Michelle Huhn (osufan1031@yahoo.com
or 513-805-6282), or Rebecca Scholl (thescholls@zoomtown.com) are
willing to answer to the best of their ability.
Happy camping!
Babysitter needed for
15-16
One family has expressed to me the
need to have child care for one child for next school year. If you or someone you know that is able and
willing to watch a 4-year-old while not at St. Mark’s, please contact the
office and we will give you their information for contact.
Happy Birthday

Classroom information
Mrs. Schulte (Pre-2)
We
continue this month's theme "At the Zoo" with "A
Little Monkey Business". We will make our Letter I into an
Igloo. During story time, we will read Banana! by Ed
Verde. Together we will learn the song, Jesus Loves the Little
Ones Like Me, and will talk about the Ten Commandments.
Later we will make a handprint craft to help teach us a very
simple version of the commandments.
Mrs. Frey
(Pre-3,4)
Preschool
is studying letter M for Mitten. Both classes will read and retell The
Mitten by Jan Brett and learn the nursery rhyme “Three Little Kittens.” 3’s
will create a mitten using contact paper and tissue paper. 4’s will create a
salt and watercolor mitten and play a letter sounds matching game. In Bible
Time 3’s will hear the account of Jesus healing the ten lepers. Although ten
were healed, only one returned to thank Jesus. 4’s will hear the account of
Jesus feeding the five thousand. He can meet all of our needs, even when it
seems impossible.
Mrs. Reynolds
(PK)
Pre-K is learning about the letter M
this week. We will be having fun reading about silly looking Monsters and
creating our own monsters from play-doh and our handprints. In math we will
also be learning about what numbers we can add to equal 6 and practice counting
to 60. In science we will be measuring different objects around the room and
discussing which objects are larger than others. For Bible this week we will be
talking about David and how he defeated Goliath. How David faced a "monster"
and defeated the giant with the help of God.
Mrs.
Sherman (K)
Wow!
The Kindergarten boys and girls are becoming readers! They are excited to
take home books to read to their families. At Bible time, Kindergarten
will hear about Jesus choosing the disciples. The children learned that
Jesus chose ordinary men and He chose them to be His helper, too. During math,
the boys and girls will participate in winter themed math centers and practice
subtraction. Throughout the week, they will also write opinion statements,
sort long and short vowel pictures, match and write sight words, create
silly snowmen and learn about Arctic animals. The full day students will
study the nonfiction book, Ice Bear, They will identify details
from the text and write about polar bears.
Mrs.
Reisenbichler (1-2)
This week in
Jesus Time, the children learned about fiery furnace and Nehemiah. Both
of these events show us about God's faithfulness to those who love him.
In language arts the second graders worked on writing their fairy tale and
making the illustrations. This is a very labor intensive process, but I'm
looking forward to final products that will be of exceptional quality. The
first graders also have a special project this week of sewing their own
pig. In math, the second grades are learning the foundations of
multiplication and division. They came to realize that they have been
doing these algorithms a long time and didn't know it. The first graders
are learning to operate function machines.
Mrs. Mayo (3-4)
In religion, we worked on our chapel
play that we presented on Wednesday and then learned about the Israelites
finally crossing the Jordan into the Promised Land. In
reading, we continued with The Whipping Boy and worked on figurative
language, prefixes, and suffixes. In math, the 3rd graders will work on
fractions while the 4th graders will work on angles. In Spanish we worked
on body words.
Mr. Postenrieder (5-6)
In our Bible
time this week we looked more of the names of Jesus. In 5th grade
math we worked on common denominators and adding fractions. We also took our
Unit 6 test. In 6th grade math we also worked with probability and
chance, adding mixed numbers, and polygons. We also took our Pre-Test 11. In our Language Arts time we worked on our
Learning Fair papers. We also read a story about a young man displaying heroic
qualities. In Social Studies we made an
African dish called “Slow cooker Chicken Marrakesh. We also began to study Central and South
Africa. In Science we continued our study of plants by reading and noting a
section of our textbook dealing with Angiosperms. In Spelling we added suffixes to words and
looked at the change in the sounds of the syllables.
Mr. Mayo (7-8)
We’re moving
along with A Separate Peace. We’re
starting to draw parallels between the
relationships in the book and our own. History is moving apace. We’re learning more about immigration of the late 19th
and early 20th centuries. We
wonder if our country would be as great NOW if the immigration policies had
been different THEN. We continue to be
amazed at God’s rich blessings given to our country throughout its history.
Mr. Reisenbichler (7-8)
In religion we will study what God’s Word
says about decision making. In 7th
grade math the students are studying geometric solids, algebraic addition, and
scientific notation. In 8th
grade math we are studying special triangles, percent of change, and
probability. In science we are learning
about elements, compounds, and molecules.
The students are planning and making a ski lift in STEM.
