Classroom information
Mrs. Frey
(P-3 & P-4)
Preschool
is studying letter X for X Ray. We will focus on dental health as February is
Dental Health month. 3’s will practice flossing and brushing in their artwork
and fine motor skills practice. Both classes will learn about foods that make
our teeth happy and sad. 4’s will make a collage of healthy and unhealthy foods
and create their own elephant toothpaste as a science experiment. In Bible Time
3’s will learn about the widow’s mite and 4’s will learn how Jesus forgives
Zacchaeus. Jesus came to save sinners and showed love and mercy to everyone.
Mrs.
Reynolds (PK & P-2)
This week Pre-K is talking more about how to
be healthy. We will be reading books about the importance of exercise and
eating healthy. We have a special visit from a dentist this week and we will
talk about how to keep our teeth healthy as well. Our letter of the week is the
letter X as the X in exercise! We will also be looking at the importance
of hand-washing and how proper hand-washing can prevent us from getting sick.
In Bible we will be looking at Jesus' miracles and how he helped people while
he was on earth. The 2 year olds theme
this month is about town. This week we will be playing with different vehicles.
Our Bible lesson this week is Daniel and the Lions den. We will make our own
lions and talk about how God is always with us.
Mrs.
Sherman (K)
Short weeks and snow days have put
Kindergarten a little behind so they will finish last week's reading
lessons. They will also blast off into space as they explore astronauts,
planets and stars. This cross curricular unit will incorporate science
(order planets and model the earth, moon and sun), math (Blast Off
measurement), reading( leveled readers), word study (Celestial Sight Words) and
writing (Ask An Astronaut) - just to name a few! During Bible time, the class
will hear of Jesus blessing the children. The full day students will complete
a book study of Abe Lincoln's Hat. They will continue space
activities as they hunt for starry sight words, complete a space themed roll,
tally and graph and write about the moon.
Mrs.
Reisenbichler (1)
This week we continue to learn about
the miracles of Jesus and his care about every aspect of our lives. We
celebrated President's Day on Tuesday with a craftivity on Abraham Lincoln and
George Washington. Later in the week we started learning about some of
our national monuments. In math, the children enjoyed learning to play a
game called Par 55. It is a game the involves learning about attributes
and strategies. The children were introduced to prepositions in
grammar. We used toys and cups to teach us about this part of speech.
Ms. Rhonemus (2)
In second
grade we are exploring cause and effect in reading text. We are also
learning how to abbreviate weekdays, months, and street names. On
Tuesday we had our Valentine's Day celebration while we remembered our
Presidents on Wednesday and Thursday by reading about George Washington and
watching some short biography videos. We also read about the process of making
Maple Syrup because on Friday we visited the Cincinnati Nature Center and got
to experience the process. In math we are working on doubling numbers and
halving. Seventh and eighth graders were tested on the Solar System.
Mrs. Mayo (3-4)
In religion
we learned about Jesus in the garden of Gethsemane. We learned more about
pioneer times by reading several selections on our anthology. In grammar
we learned about double negatives. Florida was the state of the week in
social studies. In science we learned about animal and plant cells and watched
some videos on cells. In math the 3rd graders used their multiplication
knowledge by learning how to keep score in basketball. The 4th graders
worked with mixed numbers in math.
Mr. Postenrieder (5-6)
In
our Bible time this week, we studied Samson. In 5th grade math, we
multiplied fractions, whole numbers and fractions, and mixed numbers. In 6th
grade math, we reduced fractions before multiplying. We also took our 13th
test! In our Language Arts time we continued to work with argument and
persuasion and discussed what makes a good claim and the evidence to support
your claim. In Social Studies we studied the regions of the United States. In
Science, we planted petunias and prepared bluebird houses for the season. We
also studied food chains and life cycles.
Mr. Mayo (7,8)
We’ve almost
polished off the part of our Literature book devoted to the horror genre. Many of our students are not as familiar
with horror stories as the book assumes.
I have a sneaking suspicion that our parents play a major part in
monitoring what our students watch, and keeping them a bit more innocent. I’m FINE with that!
Mr. Reisenbichler (7-8)
In religion we are discussing conflict
resolution. In 7th grade math
the students are solving percent word problems and finding the area of a circle. In 8th grade math we are graphing
equations using intercepts and calculating the probability of dependent events. The students are building a bird feeder in STEM.
