Thoughts
The 100th day of school celebration was a splendid success because of Student Council’s leadership.  Eleven activities or stations were planned, set-up, supervised, and cleaned up well.  The students always enjoy a spirit lifter during this time of the year.  Yes, it took one hour away from learning time – but did it?  Maybe they learned how to operate within a group setting, how to work as a team, how to display Christ-like attitudes, and how to succeed at something that they previously didn’t realize they could achieve success.  Way to go Student Council!

Winter Closings and Delays
Watch you email, wcpo.com, or channel 9 on the news for St. Mark’s Lutheran delays or closings.  We follow Milford’s lead on this matter.
Science Fair
Although the Science Fair isn’t until March 18, I wanted to let parents know that a display board can be purchased for $3 at the school.  I have seen some boards in local stores for over $8, so I purchased a quantity for a reduced price.  Also, is anyone knows of a willing judge, please let the office know.
Happy Birthday

Classroom information
Mrs. Frey (P-3 & P-4)
F is for Feelings! Both classes will read How Are You Peeling? to identify different feelings that they have experienced. We will list these feelings and discuss what to do if negative feelings arise. 3’s will create “my many faces” to show these emotions and “what makes me smile” to highlight happiness. 4’s will learn about the color blue as a representation of sadness in a watercolor relief painting. They will also create a mood meter. In Bible Time 3’s will hear the account of the widow’s mite, and 4’s will hear the account of Jesus and Zacchaeus. Both the widow and Zacchaeus were criticized by society, but Jesus showed them compassion and forgiveness.
Mrs. Reynolds (PK & P-2)
This week Pre-K is learning the letter V. We are making Valentines for our parents, practicing writing letters to friends, and sorting mail in our post office center by letter. In Bible we are talking about how Jesus helped Peter catch fish. We are working on the concept of simple addition and 1-1 number correspondence for math.  Pre-2 is having their Valentines Day party this Friday which will take up most of our day but before we party we are going to talk about God's love and make valentines for our friends.
Mrs. Sherman (K)
Kindergarten celebrated the 100th day on Monday.  They enjoyed minute to win it games with the school.  They also made crowns with 100 stars, a 100 piece snack and wrote about being 100 years old. In science, they completed their study of solids, liquids, and gases with an edible experiment...yum!  The class shopped with dimes, participated in math centers and described shapes by attributes during math time.  As the boys and girls heard the account of Jesus calming the storm, they learned that they can give their fears to God in prayer, trusting that He can bring peace and comfort.  The full day students completed The Snowy Day book study by using puffy paint to create tracks in the snow just as Peter did.  They also added the room, played "Before and After Boogie" with numbers and "Marshmallow Match" to identify CVC words.
Mrs. Reisenbichler (1)
This week we celebrated the 100th day of school.  If you have a chance, take a look at our special hats on the web-site.  In Jesus Time, we learned about Nicodemus.  He shows us that when we have questions, we need to ask and seek answers from the Master.  We learned to measure in centimeters this week in math and counted quarters.  In science, the children finished the experimental portion of their Science Fair projects, and we started a unit on Living Things.  Our winter stories are starting to take shape.
Ms. Rhonemus (2)
Our 100th day of school was on Monday so we celebrated with some activities put together by student council.  We continued the festivities in our classroom by reading 100 books as a class.  On Tuesday we read a book called "Punxutawney Phyllis" in honor of Groundhog day we wrote about what it would be like if we were groundhogs.  The rest of the week we read about Helen Keller and Alexander Graham Bell while focusing on the long O sound.  In math we are finishing up chapter 6 which is on multi digit addition and we are dipping our toes into multiplication and division.  In seventh and eighth grade we are learning about the solar system.
Mrs. Mayo (3-4)
We began the week celebrating the 100th day of school by having a pajama day.  We came in our pjs and spent the day on the floor in our sleeping bags.  We had a read-a-thon to try to read 100 books that day, played Minute-to-Win-It games with the student body, and played some 100 day math games.  In religion we reviewed the 10 commandments and read about Jesus clearning the temple.  We also discussed worship and prayer.  We continue to read Riding Freedom while learning more about the west when it was being settled.  In grammar we continued to learn about adverbs that answered the questions when and where.  We did map work on the plains states in social studies.  In science, we studied the Earth, its place in the solar system, and how God placed it exactly right for us to live on this wonderful planet.  In math, the 3rd graders worked with polyhedrons and then ended the week taking a chapter test.  The 4th graders worked on latitude, longitude, and division before taking their chapter test.
Mr. Postenrieder (5-6)
In our Bible time this week, we studied the Fall of Jericho, Deborah and Barak, and Samson.  In 5th math we continued adding and subtracting negative numbers.  We also enjoyed our Unit 7 test!  In 6th math, we classified quadrilaterals and worked with prime factorization.  We also enjoyed our 12th test.  In our language arts time, we continued to work with argument and persuasion as well as wrote a descriptive paragraph.  In social studies we continued our study on the effect of history on the U.S. and Canada.  In science we took a test over populations and communities.  We began to look into ecosystems and biomes.  In spelling we studies words ending in –ive.
Mr. Mayo (7,8)
We had quite a discussion of making movies out of books.  We understand that a film maker has only 2 hours or so to tell the entire story, so parts have to be excluded, and different characters have to do things sometimes.  We’ve found the film maker uses music to give a tone for the movie.  We were surprised that the film maker didn’t see the characters as we did.  We’ve just about completed our study of the Constitution.  A test is looming on the horizon.
Mr. Reisenbichler (7-8)
In religion we are discussing conflict resolution.  In 7th grade math the students are simplifying complex fractions and graphing inequalities.  In 8th grade math we are calculating the volume of cylinders and solving inequalities with negative terms.  The students are testing a tire for raining conditions in STEM.
