Thoughts
A large vocabulary can turn your child into a better reader and writer.  Try these everyday ways to help them learn new words.  Keep your ears open.  When you and your child go places, point out words that people use.  Maybe a waiter describes an entrée or the dentist talks about molars.  Encourage your child to figure out what they mean by the way they’re used.  Go beyond nouns.  Help your child add verbs and adjectives to their vocabulary.  Sports and games offer opportunities to use action words.  Let your child hear you comment on the softball that soars or the runner who sprints.  When they send thank-you notes or greeting cards, suggest descriptive words.
An Epistle will not be published next week!

Classroom information
Mrs. Frey (P-3 & P-4)
Preschool is studying letter K for kites this week! We are also excited to learn about the signs of Spring. 3’s will create kite scenes and discuss how we know Spring is on its way. 4’s will discuss animals in spring and make bird nests. Both classes will read Spring and Mouse’s First Spring. In Bible Time students will hear of God’s greatest gift to us: the sacrifice of His Son on the cross to take away our sins. Jesus suffered and died for us on that Good Friday. Easter is a special reminder of God’s love for us.
Mrs. Reynolds (PK & P-2)
This week Pre-K is reading more Dr. Seuss books. We are reading "The Lorax" and brainstorming what we would do to help the Lorax save the animals or truffula trees. We have also started reading chapter books during carpet time we are reading one chapter a day and the kids cannot wait to see what will happen next! We are still focusing on the letter D this week and practicing rhyming. In Bible we are talking about Easter and the true meaning behind the holiday. It is a time to remember Jesus and the sacrifice he made for us.
The Pre-2 class is having an Easter Party this week! We will also be looking at the real easter story and making our S is for snake letter for our alphabet book!
Mrs. Sherman (K)
During Bible time, Kindergarten will learn about the beginning of Holy Week as they listen to the Bible account of Jesus riding into Jerusalem.  They will compare and sort 2D and 3D shapes during math.  The class will also begin telling time to the hour!  The boys and girls will celebrate St. Patrick's day by decorating hats for Lucky the Leprechaun and his friends.  Will the mischievous and magical Lucky do something in return?  Perhaps a surprise will be waiting for the class!  Reading selections will center around music and how musicians work together to create music.  The class will identify digraphs and vowel sounds for phonics time.  The full day students will read  the book, Jamie O'Rourke and the Big Potato.  They will make inferences and predictions based on clues in the text.  They also enjoy exploring centers so this week some activities will include playing digraph basketball, finding clover words, playing a St. Patrick's Day subtraction game and Leprechaun I Spy.
Mrs. Reisenbichler (1)
This week we learned about Peter's denial of Jesus and Jesus before Pilate in our Jesus Time.  In math, the children practiced purchasing items at the school store and learned to make change.  These are lifetime skills that require a lot of practice.  In science, we started learning about snakes.  We made snake eye masks.  We learned about possessive pronouns and similes in language arts.  Please check out our winter stories on display in the school entry way.
Ms. Rhonemus (2)
This week in second grade we have been reading poetry and fictional stories.  We have also been dabbling in figurative language by looking at similes and metaphors.  In math we are finishing up our chapter on fractions and we will be starting to look at area and touching on measurement again.  For social studies we learned about a few very special inventors, our favorite one invented chocolate chip cookies on accident.  In writing we have been focusing on adding detail to our stories and supporting our ideas with details.  Seventh and eighth graders are learning about motion and forces.
Mrs. Mayo (3-4)
In religion, we studied the account of Jesus being buried.  We also discussed how we can serve our Redeemer. In reading , we continued to read Snow Treasure and learn how children helped save Norwegian gold from the Nazis. In grammar, we worked with  possessive and interrogative pronouns.  In social studies we learned about Oklahoma.  We presented our science fair projects to the class this week to get ready for the science fair.  In math, the 3rd graders made equivalent fractions, compared fractions, and worked with fractions in word problems.  The 4th graders finished their fraction unit and took a chapter test.  They then worked on kitchen layouts.
Mr. Postenrieder (5-6)
In our Bible time this week we studied the events leading up to Holy Week. In 5th grade math we worked with volume and capacity. We also took our Unit 9 test.  In 6th grade math we worked with units of measure, volume, proportions, and order of operations. In our Language Arts time we continued reading Which Way Freedom? In Social Studies we continued power points on Central America. In Science we presented our Science Fair projects and began to monitor our bluebird houses. In Spelling we worked with words ending in -ion.
Mr. Mayo (7,8)
We will start Jefferson’s presidency soon, in History class.  We will be surprised by how little Mr. Jefferson followed the Constitution when he thought it was the right thing to do.  He made such a fuss when Adams did things that were contrary to the Constitution.  We tend to be “Loose Interpreters” of the Constitution, especially when it suits our party.
Mr. Reisenbichler (7-8)
In religion we are discussing true friendship through Christ.  In 7th grade math the students are graphing functions and evaluating integers.  In 8th grade math we are studying sampling methods and multiplying binomials.  The students are building a bird feeder in STEM.
