Thoughts
I have been coaching Science Olympiad teams since
1987. That is not only a long time, but
it is also time well spent in motivating students to try their best, learn from
mistakes, and love science. I am very
proud of this year’s team for their dedication, motivation, and team work in a
Christian manner. All behavior on
Saturday was beyond acceptable.

beginning and ending sounds, consonants and vowels and sight words. The
full day students will read additional Eric Carle books. They will also
play several phonics and math games such as shoot and score digraphs,
subtraction smash, rainy day addition and word detective scoot.
Mrs.
Reisenbichler (1)
This week we celebrated our Lutheran
Schools. The children wrote letters to other schools telling them
about who we are and prayed for them. In Jesus Time we learned about
the Last Supper and visited the Garden of Gethsemane. Our lessons
focused on prayer. In math, we worked with money. Not
only did we learn how to count dollars, but we learned that when we have money,
we have a responsibility to use it wisely as a gift from God. The
children enjoyed learning about the Iditarod and are enjoying tracking their
mushers.
Ms. Rhonemus (2)
This week the
school has been learning about the Iditarod through various activities.
One of those has been that each child is following a different musher who
is racing and checking in on them every day. We are also reading about
sled dogs and the Iditarod in class. In math we are working on fractions
while continuing to hone our double digit subtraction skills. For reading
we are learning about a poet from Chile named Gabriela while also focusing on
using descriptive adjectives. Seventh and eighth graders presented
different constellations, took a test, and are continuing to work on their
science reports.
Mrs. Mayo (3-4)
We were
excited to celebrate Lutheran Schools this week. Along with the special
things we did to celebrate, we had time to fit in most of our regular classes,
too. In religion, we went over the account of Jesus dying on the cross
and what a wonderful gift that is for us. In reading, we continued
reading in the book, Snow Treasure, while learning about Norway and
World War II. In grammar, we worked with pronouns. We worked on a
map of southeastern states in social studies. In math, the 3rd graders
explored fractions while the 4th graders worked on probability and fractions.
Mr. Postenrieder (5-6)
In
our Bible time this week we participated in chapel for Lutheran Schools Week.
In 5th grade math we continued to work with area. We also began
solving volume problems. In 6th
grade math we worked with capacity, area, and ratio. We also enjoyed our 15th
test. In our Language Arts time we continued reading Which Way Freedom? In Social Studies we continued power points on
Central America. In Science we studied where living things live on the Earth.
In Spelling we had a week of review.
Mr. Mayo (7,8)
We have
covered the presidencies of Washington and Adams, and decided that Adams was a
much better revolutionary than a president.
He seemed to want to be a king.
He certainly didn’t like people speaking against his ideas. We had quite a discussion about Apple Inc.
and decided they should not comply with the FBI request to give information
stored on someone’s phone. They used the
word “precedent” when talking about why they can’t give in now, because of what
may happen in the future. I was so
proud!
Mr. Reisenbichler (7-8)
In religion we are discussing divorce
and God’s plan for marriages. In 7th
grade math the students are graphing functions and evaluating integers In 8th grade math we are studying
sampling methods and multiplying binomials.
The students are building a bird feeder in STEM.
