Thoughts
Eight months ago the first meeting of a call committee
was held for the position of principal.
Looking back on those months, it is safe to say that one of God’s great
blessings to our church is our Christian Day School. It is very difficult in our day and age to
maintain a Christian Day School as our world becomes more and more
secular. I thank God for a congregation
of faithful people who see value in training our children in the nurture and
admonition of the Lord. I am also
thankful for the tireless efforts of those who helped with our multi-month call
process. While it may have been
difficult to continue in patience during those months, we all will agree that
God has certainly answered our prayers by sending us Mr. Kollmorgen. Continue to remember him and our entire staff
in your prayers.

Parents’ Night
Out Babysitting Fundraiser—April 9
The 7th–8th grade students of St. Mark’s school invite you to have a night out on Saturday, April 9, 5:00–9:00 pm. Parents with children from infants to 6th grade may drop them at St. Mark’s so they can spend some quality time together. The students will watch them under adult supervision with a variety of activities, games, pizza dinner ($3), and other forms of fellowship. Children will be divided into groups based on age. A free will donation will be taken upon pickup. The proceeds will go toward their end-of-the-year trip. When was the last time you had a date with your spouse or time to shop without the kids?

Classroom information
Mrs. Frey (P-3 & P-4)
Preschool
is learning letter U for umbrella as we focus on weather this week! We will
create projects relating to rain, clouds, wind, and rainbows. We will answer
the question: How do rainbows form? We are excited to be back from Spring
break! In Bible Time we will hear about some of Jesus’ last days on Earth
before he returns to His Father in heaven. 3’s will hear about Jesus’ reveal to
His disciples as He cooks them breakfast. 4’s will hear about Jesus’ reveal to
two disciples on the road to Emmaus. He is risen!
Mrs.
Reynolds (PK & P-2)
We were all excited to be back after Spring Break! This week Pre-k is learning about sea creatures as we play with the "Under the Sea" theme. Our letter for the week is U! In Bible we are discussing the story of the Good Samaritan and how we can help others around us.
Pre-2 is learning about rainbows as we practice sorting colors. We will be playing follow the leader to practice our listening skills. Our Bible lesson is about Jesus' return to heaven!
Mrs.
Sherman (K)
Spring is blooming in Kindergarten as
the class continues their study of living things. They are exploring plants and
what plants need to grow. During math, that will tell time to the hour
and half hour, identify 3D shapes and write numbers to 100. At Bible time, the
class will hear the account of Jesus rising from the dead. Alleluia! The full
day students will begin exploring pond life. They will order the life cycle of
a frog, learn a song about metamorphosis and read several books about pond
animals.
Mrs.
Reisenbichler (1)
What a lovely spring
break! The children got back into routine quickly. This
week we continued to celebrate the resurrection in Jesus Time. We
made lilies to help shout out the good news that Jesus is alive. In
math, the number grid was our friend. We played games with it and
learned to add and subtract with it. Our science topic was
alligators and crocodiles. The children were also introduced to an
animal project this week. They will be learning about an animal
somewhat of their choice, making a diorama of its habitat, making an oral
presentation of their animal, and writing a science based story based on the
animal. This is a long term project. In Social Studies,
we are starting to learn about Native Americans.
Mrs. Mayo (3-4)
In religion
we continued the story of the resurrection as Jesus appeared to Mary and the
disciples. We also made a banner celebrating our victory through
Jesus. We continued reading Snow Treasure and worked on
vocabulary, similes, metaphors, and personification. We reviewed all the
skills we've learned so far in grammar. In social studies we learned about
Texas and New Mexico. In science we learned about competition and
adaptation. We did a big experiment about different types of beaks and
learned why God made each bird with exactly the beak it needed for the food it
eats. We then took what we learned and designed our own bird, using our
knowledge to create its characteristics. In math the 3rd graders learned
3 different strategies to multiply larger numbers. The 4th graders worked
on area and learned formulas to find areas of rectangles, parallelograms, and
triangles.
Mr. Postenrieder (5-6)
In
our Bible time this week we studied the relationship between David and Saul. In
5th grade math we worked with graphs. In 6th grade math we worked with
unknown factors, using proportions to solve ratio word problems, and measuring
turns. In our Language Arts time we continued reading Which Way Freedom? In Social Studies we began to study the islands
of the Caribbean. In Science we continued to study biomes and aquatic
ecosystems. We also continued to monitor our bluebird houses.
Mr. Mayo (7,8)
It’s been
hard on students and teachers! We’re
given 6 days off and then are expected to get right back to work. We are returning to “business as normal”
after the great visit from the NLSA (National Lutheran School Accreditation)
team that visited St. Mark’s before Easter.
We’ll be learning more about Jefferson’s presidency than we thought
possible. We’ll be starting a new novel
in Literature next week.
Mr. Reisenbichler (7-8)
In religion we are discussing God’s
gift of health and wellness. In 7th
grade math the students are studying similar triangles and scales. In 8th grade math, we are studying
sequences and graphing relations and functions.
The students are building a bird feeder in STEM.
